Hall is the answer.  None of the others are better than the starters in front of them.  Hall is likely better than a couple of relievers.

This was my gut instinct, but went with how I felt they’d perform.  I think of that grouping Jackson’s talent would net the best results.  I’m a Hall believer, but just don’t see him coming up in a pressure cooker and having success.  I really hope I’m wrong!!!

I can see it. Elias and Sig like to hoard. Just like how we’re not just going to give away Norby and Stowers this offseason. Deep depth is what works for 162. After all this time I think they are ok with him over Ortiz for the next for weeks for the chance to work with him until next OD.

Hoarding is fine, but at some point it gets a little silly.

I agree, but I also think we can take a chance on his bat in September. The bigger risk is that we do like what we did with Adley, and wait until after June next year to call him up and he still finishes top 2 in ROY and wins the year of service time back. I’d rather we just lump all our chips together this year and have them going for a WS together.

This time last year nobody saw Gunnar coming. Holliday is cut from that same cloth.

Game One vs RHP

1. Mullins L CF

2. Adley S C

3. Gunnar L 3B

4. Santa S DH

5. O’Hearn L 1B

6. Hays R LF

7. Hicks S RF

8. Frazier L 2B

9. Holliday L SS

McCann, Mountcastle, Mateo, Westburg, Urias

They're not moving the far superior Gunnar off of short to play Holliday AND sit all of Westburg, Urias and Mateo. I'll bet my life savings this won't happen.

I consider Mark Belanger a glove first shortstop.  I think you are underestimating Ortiz's offensive potential.

Probably in the long run. But not for 2 months of his rookie season in a playoff race. Just my hunch, could be wrong.

It's really hard to understand.

The ONLY thing I can think of...and it's grasping at straws, I'm not saying this is THE reason but it could be A reason...they think they can get him back to being a good hitter.  That there's a player in there that's closer to the heaters he was on last year and this year.  That they've got some newfangled analytics/camera system/tech that would blow our minds away and the rest of the general public has no idea about it...but whatever this software is, whatever this camera system is, it's telling Elias and Sig that they can get Mateo fixed.

That's the only reason I can think they'd be keeping him around.  Other than he's a good clubhouse guy, the team is winning, etc.

I think you're hitting on it because both Elias and Hyde have said numerous times in the last 90 or so days how close Jorge has been. I haven't heard those comments in recent days/weeks but for a bit that's what was said in response to Jorge's struggles.

Looking at the order in which teams have priority on waiver claims, it could also be that certain teams near the top of the claim order, who could use a Jorge, are teams that the O's don't want to claim Jorge. So maybe they're holding onto him for that.

Something just isn't right with the entire situation. They could find reasons to IL him (a la Ubaldo) but have just kept running him out there. Are they worried about Jorge's brother souring on the org should they part ways with him? It's  egregious at this point.

Well if all this is true, then it's a bit silly, IMO.  Being petrified that a team might claim Mateo and then he goes Beast Mode and comes back to haunt us, or at the very least helps a competitor...I mean, that's part of the game.  That's a risk you gotta take.

I admire how Elias has amassed all this talent, I can't think of a time in my life where the Orioles have had so much talent in the organization.  But if he's so tightfisted on some of it when it comes to a guy like Mateo, that's a bit weird.  It's like how I'd feel about drafting and developing guys in Madden when I was in college....like I said, weird.

That we can agree with.  Not sure what is in the water at Norfolk but our prospects are just so dominate there that you can't help but think they are going to be impact players.  That is the great unknown.

DL Hall because this team needs pitching.  With the exception of Ortiz, the others just take away at-bats from players who have contributed to this team's winning.

Unless he gets traded in the offseason, Ortiz will have Mateo's job soon enough.  I like Mateo and think he deserves at-bats against lefties, but he had been glad with the glove lately.  If he keeps that up he will get cut.  He might get cut anyway since I'm not sure he's tradeable at his salary.

No doubt and one of my few gripes with what he's doing.
