Exactly.    For some, being “right” is far more important than facts.  Maybe with a World Series championship trophy, some people will have to acknowledge that maybe the  “well they could have done better with Scherzer “ talk was just nonsense lol  And that maybe Mike Elias is not quite as dumb as they seem to think lol

I'll be honest, I wasn't thrilled with Flaherty being the only pitcher acquired but the facts are the facts.

We do not know what the Orioles offered or who they went after, and I'm certainly not taking up for Angelos because for all I know he would not let Elias take on the contracts of Scherzer, Verlander or Montgomery even if the prospects were agreed upon.

We also don't know how the young rotation will hold up in the playoffs. So if I had my druthers, I would feel better with the Orioles having any of them instead of Flaherty in starting rotation right now.

But saying all of that, the Orioles have been better than every one of the team that were mentioned and while all three of those guys have out performed Flaherty so far, the records of the teams are what they are since the trad deadline.

Now I will admit, when the playoff starts, that's when we'll know whether Elias' conservative approach (whether his decision or Angelos') at the trade deadline worked or not.

I like the idea of trying Flaherty as a reliever. He throws hard enough where he could be effective.

He struggles with command and has a 6.48 ERA in the first inning.  Is that dispositive?  No.  But it doesn’t seem like the makings of a good reliever.

Is it possible that Flaherty would be effective on the big stage, the playoffs?  He was effective when he was on the Cardinals when they were in the playoffs I think?

Are we talking about the Flaherty that was throwing 95 and touching 97 in his debut with the Orioles? Or the guy who throws 92?

Not sure why Flaherty can't carry the higher velocity from start to start, but he does still have it at his disposal. And if he can tap into that higher velocity for the playoffs I would like to see him out there as the #4 behind Bradish, Rodriguez, Kremer.

All of these teams traded for these players, not signed them.

Record since the trade deadline (Aug 1st until Sep 8th)
Orioles : 23-10
Rangers:  16-17
Astros: 20-16
Phillies: 20-13

So despite the Orioles lackluster trade deadline acquisition (So far) of Flaherty, they've had the best record of the teams you mentioned.

So why the negativity?

Yep the O's have been fantastic, but it doesn't seem that the "big" moves that Elias has made have been much help

Givens, Frazier, Gibson, Flaherty

The more under the radar moves is where he has shined, Cano, McCann, Hicks,  even Fuji

Really I'll stop arguing with the outlandish success and just enjoy the ride.

How do you distinguish between "big" and "under the radar"?

2019-20: 4 starts, 23 IP, 23 H, 9 ER, 6 BB, 30 Ks.

(The meaningless stats: W 1, L 3 / 3.52 ERA)

My most emotional based on no facts or knowledge opinion his interviews, regardless of the outcome, are a downer.  I mean, he is in his late 20's so maybe he is a cantankerous old man but it is almost like there is not much inspiration left.  That is the most ridiculous thought I could write... right?

I really have no issue going with young guys.  It will make it more exciting, stressful and (hopefully not) upsetting.
