Does Angelos not like country music? Is that a thing?

I don't think anyone responded to my post the other night when I pointed out how JA's wife interrupted their broadcast to get a selfie with Brach. A few minutes later she was in-picture pointing toward them and fanning herself almost like "Brach is hot"

That was JA's wife? Well of course she would just feel she can do whatever she wants during a live broadcast. Now I know why all of the announcers just acted like nothing had happened when that woman took the selfie.

I like KB and hope he's the guy for years going forward.  I do think he's a bit overrated and find some of his remarks to be as ridiculous as that stupid splash zone.  Of course, this situation is totally believable because of the complete hatred I have for JA and the belief that he will screw this whole thing up.  His ownership dampens everything Orioles related for me.  I don't think he'll pay our young players, or any players, or Elias.  He's a constant embarrassment, highlighted by the MASN suit that he dragged out for many years, the total mess he's making of the stadium lease deal, and everything else his massive greed and punchable face have done.  The guy's a scumbag.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that statement. Did he get suspended for it being false? As far as I can tell the Orioles are 6-3 vs the Rays this year and were 9-10 vs them last year.

Now THAT makes some sense.

I can see Brown making that statement (assuming he did, I don't recall it), I can envision Angelos hearing it and saying wait a minute, that's not right, and then approaching Brown about it, and Brown not responding very well to it, and it snowballing from there.  That, while still totally ridiculous, at least is a sensible narrative.

I think so.. when she was interrupting their broadcast Hollendar said something like "oh. _ _ _ _ _ Angelos" (I didn't catch the first name) but she was seen with him in the dugout during the ceremony and obviously was close enough to him during parts of the game as she was seen a couple times when the cameras were on the broadcast team.

Obviously fans have different tastes when it comes to announcers. While Gary would occasionally annoy me at times by calling the wrong pitch, him and Palmer were usually a fun listen overall. Gary had golden pipes and knew the proper level of excitement to show over the play at hand in the specific game situation. This is what drove me nuts about Jim Hunter. Hunter was actually an effective PBP announcer when describing the action, particular on the radio, but the Orioles could be down 8-0 and someone would pop a homer and you'd think the Orioles just walked off a win.

While Brown is not perfect, and as he's gotten more comfortable I've found him at times too homerish (which is funny that he was supposedly suspended over being too negative), he's a very good announcer overall on both radio and TV. Just don't make him go out into the splash zone and be a "man of the people." Talk about cringe worthy especially after he said someone may have stolen his wallet.

Honestly, now that I think of it, I wonder if that was what got him suspended?

This made me openly laugh. How does that happen in the stands if you are the announcer? Why did no one in the section or the section next to you say anything? There’s a camera crew there with eyes on you, how did they not see or record anything? This sounds unironically like a Seinfeld bit.

I will say, I wonder if there is something more to the story than this.  I literally have no idea what it could be.

I think there is 100% more to the story.  There always is.

And confirmations from sources are great, but if everyone's confirmation is coming from the same wrong source, the info is still wrong.

Do you have a clip of this? This sounds hilarious. 😁

I liked a lot about Thorne and agree that him and Palmer together were great. I would like to hear him and Ben. I think the story telling there would be hilarious.

But still, I prefer that my PBP guys know what pitch is being thrown and the correct names of the players. :)

Does anyone have a video of this? I missed the game and I’m totally lost on the context here.

I don't but if you watch the replay of the game you'll see it. I can't recall who they had in the booth with them at the time but I feel like it was when Ken Singleton was up there.

I'm guessing (if the rumor is true, I don't really believe it) that he was referring to wins at Tropicana Field. But even that I'm not sure is accurate as I don't feel like looking it up.😁

Maybe THIS!  I do recall KB saying on one broadcast that upon arriving home after the splash zone game his wife asked him if he apologized to the person who drove him home because “you need a shower!”

For PBP guys, I don't really need that much from them as far as calling the action. I can see what's going on. I just want to find them entertaining and Kevin and Ben (and Jim when he's there) are highly entertaining. Kevin cracks me up. I get it that not everyone wants that sort of thing but it works for me.

    • The Orioles have a single regular reliever with an ERA under 3, and that's Coulombe and he's only been back less than a week. Last year they had 4: Bautista, Cano, and Coulombe. Name 2023 ERA 2024 ERA DIFF Yennier Cano 2.11 3.2 1.09 Cionel Perez 3.54 4.61 1.07 Danny Coulombe 2.81 2.2 -0.61 Jacob Webb 3.27 3.15 -0.12 Bryan Baker 3.6 5.01 1.41 Those are some pretty big dropoffs for Cano, Perez. And while Baker isn't a regular, he's certainly been abysmal aside from like a 3-4 week stretch. But it's not just a regression for Cano and Perez, but we also need to look at the guys masquerading/masqueraded as a closer this year in Kimbrel and Seranthony. Kimbrel had a 5.33 ERA, Seranthony with a 3.43. Between the 2 of them, that's nearly 3x worse performance than Bautista. Bowman has been serviceable, but imploded recently. Soto has been awesome for a spell, but he's had periods where things looked really off. The bullpen is absolutely the Achilles heel of this club. Their collective ERA is 4.26 this season. The Royals had the worst in the AL bullpens up until the O's imploded yet again last night. The Royals bullpen ERA is 4.21, btw. It is a major concern going into the playoffs.
    • I thought about Rivera,  but I figured his ability to play two positions would keep him around.    It will be interesting to see what they decide.     One of the non-pitchers will need to be left off as I understand it.     13 max
    • Freddie Freeman on crutches after the game last night.
    • I think there's room to keep both.   Shed some bad bullpen arms like Baker and Bowman.   Either Rivera or Gregory Soto can go.   So even if you add McDermott you can keep both Slater and Kjerstad.
    • Good information.  I would agree for sure if it was a one game series.  Assuming the series goes 3 games, would you keep Slater over Kjerstad?     I guess if we are prioritizing RH bats, then I’d drop Holliday.
    • Look at who you replying to, it's his thing.   Means nothing, adds absolutely nothing to the discussion.   Put him on your ignore list.   2-1 so far They made the playoffs They won that night and clinched a playoff spot
    • Understood. My comment was 100% above vibes. They went 2-4 over their last six and lost 3 of 4 to Seattle to drop out of the division and into the wildcard spot. It wasn't a months long limp like the Orioles, but that--at least in my book--counts as limping in. They had no apparent "momentum" going in, but still turned it around. That was the point.
