My recollection on the research was that there was some evidence at 110-120 pitches but it's a pretty weak correlation.  After 120 pitches the correlation with injury was more significant.  Below 110 pitches was pretty inconsequential.

 

The 100 pitch mark is more due to pitcher effectiveness at that stage in the game than due to pitcher use/abuse.

 

There might be somewhat of a self-fulfilling aspect to it because pitchers train to throw 100 pitches instead of preparing for 110-120.
