Hicks activated, Cowser optioned

I have a guess Cowser won't be back, and he and Kjerstad will both enter 2024 with something like 33-44 days of service.

Its too bad Cowser didn't debut better, and I agree with OP even with the .118 average I would expect him to outplay Hicks the next couple months.

Like the Three Billy Goats Gruff, I think we'll get to try Cowser's bigger, stronger brother in a couple weeks and we'll see what happens.     Mid-August, Cowser and Mayo have shown enough chinks in the armor to be longshots now for an October roster competition all the best Orioles are in.

This is no surprise and makes sense both for the team and for Cowser’s continued development.

Yes, Hicks may be not good over next few weeks at which point you could bring up Cowser, Kjerstad or Stowers depending on who is hottest.

Or maybe he gets another month burst of production just as he did when he came on- maybe playoff run  fires him up , maybe he wants another contract.. whatever.

But the only moves here were either DFA Hicks, DFA Mateo or option Cowser.  This move retains the most assets and most flexibility in case Ced (nope not going to say it even)

Fine with me. Neither player should be starting many games down the stretch. I trust Hicks to have good AB's, strike out less, and maybe hit the occasional homer. In the meantime, let Cowser work on the holes in his swing starting in AAA. We can always bring Cowser back if Hicks is really bad the next couple of weeks but we can't get Hicks back if we keep Cowser.

It's the right move for this team at this time.

Even heading into next year these prospects are going to need to kick the door down and force their way into the lineup.

Mullins/Hays/Santander all return in 24'.

Cowser didn't force the issue and struggled to make the jump.

Stowers/McKenna/Vavra/Kjerstad -maybe one steps. up

With our infield having plenty to sort through I feel like the outfield is a place we should upgrade heading in 24' via free agency (tough) or trade.
