Cant say I like 4 year and 2 would be better, but the market decides and he going to get more than 2 years. But thatswhat it might take to make a splash.
I would not say light years behind but I would say behind. Blair won 8 Gold Gloves and had 18.8 career dWar. For comparison Cedric Mullins has 2. Adam Jones won 4 GG but never had dWar over 1, Blair had 7 years over 1.4. Blair had 5 years over 2 dWar. The only other Oriole CF I could find 2 dWar or better was Mike D (2.0) once in 1991. Blair is a high bar..
Worthwhile reading. I'll refrain from commenting on anyone else's (real or suspected) lack of moral fiber as long as MLB is governed by Rob Manfred.
Meanwhile, am I alone in wondering what a "troll of Japanese baseball's old-boy network" might actually look like? Is this like a Yakuza thing or something?
Not worth losing the first round pick for a pitcher at Pivetta's level. Elias would really have to strikeout in free agency and not land a starting pitcher in a trade before I'd consider Pivetta.
I’d be comfortable losing a pick for Pivetta, someone similar or someone better.
But I would go after other options first. If those options dry up, I take a run at him.
What I find to be an interesting question is, would you rather sign Pivetta and lose a pick or trade C level prospects for Montgomery or Gray and cash? Is the pick worth more than those prospects?
