Monster game for MD today

Sorry, I just don't see it happening tonight. With Clemson coming off a bad loss and at home, I think this game could get ugly for Md. Plus, Clemson has the inside presence to punish the smaller Terps.

But then again, I am a Clemson alum so what do I know?

That is a very good question. Did you learn anything more than when cocktail hour is?;)

I like the Clemson team, it just seems that every year right around this time they struggle. They certainly have a good squad this year though, better than the last 5 years.

I agree and disagree with that. Up until two years ago, we just were not very good and played a soft schedule that did not prepare us for the ACC. So it was natural we were going to struggle against better teams.

Last year was the first year I thought we were a pretty good team. And, if struggling means going 10-6 in the ACC and making it to the ACC tournament finals like last year, then I'll take it.

All teams are going to "struggle" once conference play begins. It's tougher (especially in the ACC) competition. This year, we have wins over Illinois, S. Carolina, Temple, Alabama, Liberty (a very underrated team), UNC-Charlotte, Miami, Va. Tech and Duke. That's not a bad resume. Other than Sunday against UVA, we don't have a bad loss. We were 0-10 from three point land in the first half.

I just don't see that happening tonight against the worst three point shooting defense in the ACC. I guess we'll find out in a few hours.

Well, then lets just say your team has been building over the past few years. When you went 17-0 two years ago you faded down the stretch and I thought you faded a bit last year as well after a great start.

Certainly you have a very good team and you have had a good year. Yet, given Clemson's history, I think they are beatable tonight. I'm wrong a lot, so I wouldn't put too much stock into what I am saying.

No doubt we are beatable. UVa proved that. But I don't think Maryland is the team to do it. You have a team coming off its best game of the year playing against a better team at home coming off its worst game of the year.

I just think it all adds up to a Clemson victory.

I guess Vegas agrees because the line is 10.5.

I don't like this matchup at all for the Terps. If I was a gambling man I'd lay the 10.5.

I actually thing the Wake game might be the easiest of the big four.

Honestly, I think Wake beats us by 30 plus. They just have wayyyyy too much size for us. Their starting front court is 7' 240, 6'9 220, and 6'8 245, and they have 3 guys 6'11 or better on the bench. And that doesn't include having All ACC 1st teamer Jeff Teague in the backcourt.

Watch Wake play on the road.

Totally different team than the one that plays in Winston-Salem.

I hope all the people who were whining and crying earlier this year and think Gary needs to go are watching tonight.

Despite the rough end of the half, they are still only down 6 at the half.

This team has played very, very well on the road tonight against a Top 15 team in the country. Who knows if they hang on and get a win, but they have looked really good, and the game plan to take Booker out of the game has been nothing short of brilliant.

Considering they have shot free throws poorly and haven't shot particularly well, I'd think Maryland fans have to feel great about this first half.

Gotta agree. MD has taken it to Clemson's press, which I think was very smart.

If they could hit a few shots, they might have a chance. I think both teams are playing at a very similar pace, which as a MD fan, I like. I am sure Clemson likes this pace too. It looks like it is going to be a pretty fun second half.

I agree with your GW comments, but I was never in the "he needs to go" camp, nor am I a GW apologist.

    • Yeah, basically this, that Westburg's underlying numbers (EV, barrel %, xwOBA) seem to point at this being pretty real, or at least that there's nothing 'undeserved / lucky' about this hot streak, if it's just that.
    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
