I started the offseason thinking the payroll would go to roughly $85 million.  I've since revised my expectation to at least $100 million by the end of the year, which sounds about right because even a tier 3 starter would get it close to that before Opening Day.  I'm not holding my breath about any extensions.

I've said all along that since last year's success there is no place for JA to hide on the payroll question and there isn't.  MLB rights fees, MASN rights fees, increased attendance and a host of other revenue streams means that a $100 million MLB payroll for the O's is sustainable at a minimum.

I believe the O's get $100 million straight from MLB.  Tell me if I'm wrong.

I think so, but you still need to know what their non-major league payroll costs are to draw any conclusions about what payroll they could afford.

It all depends on the offers Getz is getting. If Joey Ortiz is the headlining piece then yeah if I’m Getz I’m turning it down too. I’m sure he has a minimum price in mind that he’d accept right now that isn’t actually the “sun and the moon”

If Joey Ortiz is the headliner I would too. I think most people here understand that the marketplace is competitive enough that for any O’s deal Ortiz would have to be a second piece at best.

It’s not hard to believe that Getz is asking for a lot, but beyond that I don’t place much credence in any of the reports we’re hearing.

I would bet every dollar have the O's can afford more than a bottom 3 payroll.

$110 is revenue sharing divided evenly among all teams. $60.1 million is the National tv contract. We still have 52% of our local revenues including tickets, MASN money, memorabilia, concessions, etc.

Yeah but can't support over $100 million payroll.  🤔

Their can support a payroll in the $160-$180 million range. There overall revenue has to to somewhere in the $280-$300 million range.

I just don’t see where trading for Cease makes sense for Mariners.  There starting pitching isn’t the problem they have 5 solid starters already.   There weakness is hitting if you want to use Miller and Woo in a trade I would think you want to use your strength to trade for a weakness.  I don’t see a huge benefit for trading Cease for Miller or Woo this season let alone then length of control they will have on those two.

Yeah, I’m not buying into the M’s looking to move Miller or Woo for Cease when they need offense. Probably more of Getz making his demands of what he must necessarily obtain in a trade vs working on a proposal that actually has a chance of happening.

Getz has been spurned by everyone so far; could a deal still happen with the O’s if talks get revisited, potentially.. but I’m not going to be checking mlbtrade and the twitter 24/7 for updates.

The best thing for us is to hope for that the new ownership group gets approved by next ST and we can at least get an extension or two worked out.

Discussion about trading for Cease Getz pretty boring.

Why is Getz the bad guy though?  Aren’t all the factors pretty much known and it’s on our FO and ownership?  They asked for Holliday at the deadline. Sounds like they want one of Basallo/Mayo now. We knew what Kyle Gibson wanted.

It’s pretty straightforward… we don’t want to trade either of Mayo/Basallo, and Elias had to choose between one of Kimbrel/Gibson to sign.

We ain’t spending any money. We got Kimbrel. Be happy.

This is what I've been trying to express.

Also in response to the other poster's comments about the 110M revenue sharing, if you divide that by 30 teams it only comes out to $3.6 Million the Orioles get out of that. If the nation wide TV contract is divided by 30 teams, that only adds $2Million. So all the Orioles get out of that is $3.8Million, if it's divided up by 30 teams and those are the real numbers.
