Bloomberg: Carlyle Group/David Rubenstein In Talks To Purchase Orioles

There was a new article (behind paywall) this morning in the Wall Street Journal on the Oriole’s ownership situation.  However, it doesn’t really add much new information.

Gist is:

- Peter wants team sold at death (per Lou/John lawsuits); there are differences of opinion among the family about the future of the team; the final decision will be Georgia’s.

- John wants to maintain control and told Wes Moore that the family has no plans to give up majority ownership.

- David Rubinstein is interested in purchasing the team.

- The team is unlikely to be sold prior to Peter’s death due to tax considerations.

I read this today and like you said not much new there.  I was intrigued when I saw Peter Angelos picture on the front page of the WSJ.  

John may want to maintain control when Peter passes but I doubt he has much control on that.  The fact that nothing like a sale will happen before Peter’s passing is really a no brainer.  The Rubinstein information to me has to be more than just he wants to buy it and there is nothing else to it.  Where there is smoke there is fire and there seems to be a lot of smoke.

These 2 things are conflicting. As said within the post, Georgia will make the final decisions on what happens in accordance with Peter's will.
