I told y'all in another thread that it's wildcard's world and we're all just living in it.

But seriously, I'm not sure what else he would say right now. It's part spin, part truth, and part trade negotiation chicken-playing.

The difference is, I think Wildcard actually believes it.

About what I expected him to say at this point. Not much else to say. Clearly whatever calculus they have that says "GOOD DEAL" has not happened yet. And clearly he has no authority/desire (whichever it is really doesn't matter) to spend basically any money that isn't absolutely necessary to maintain competitiveness (Kimbrel) or anything beyond 1 guaranteed year.

Elias is a good GM but... damn man.

When I played "musical chairs" as a child the chairs that were left at the end were pretty crappy.

This is a strawman argument by Elias.  No one is asking him to reimagine the team.  But staying still because "we won 101 games last year" is not a recipe for success, and comes off as very lazy.

Not saying Elias is lazy, and I do think he is working on ways to improve the team, but this quote does not make him look good.

Mike Elias seems like the type of guy who spends six months researching new toasters before he's ready buy one.

What's funny is we said the same type of thing about DD, AM, etc.  Common denominator is an Angelos as their boss...

Cool, now we got the guy in charge essentially saying well we won 101 so we don't actually need to do something significant to improve the team.

That’s not exactly what he said but have your fun.

I’d agree.  The tone sounds defensive.

He’s essentially saying the team is good as it sits but I want to make it better.   We have a few irons in the fire and I’m trying to see what I think is the best way forward both short term and long term.

If the team was good enough and didn't need upgrades then they wouldn't have gotten swept away by the Rangers last season in the playoffs. Right now, their improvement has been a wash, added a closer and subtracted a starter. Status quo.
