I can’t imagine John Angelos agreeing to take on enough of Verlander’s contract to make a trade viable. Or the Mets would have gotten a king’s ransom to assume a majority of Verlander’s remaining contract.

The offense stalled…..Verlander wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Being stuck for the rest of his contract wasn’t worth it.
