Aristotelian
What would we have needed to give up to beat their package? Probably Cowser or Kjerstad.

Malike
The way they hit, Verlander wouldn't have made a difference at all.
spleen1015
Today we'd still be without a WS and much worse shape roster-wise. No thanks.

I'm sure that info is available on that thing they call the internet if you add "in the Verlander trade" to your post above.

I can’t imagine John Angelos agreeing to take on enough of Verlander’s contract to make a trade viable. Or the Mets would have gotten a king’s ransom to assume a majority of Verlander’s remaining contract. At the time, in the moment, we would have loved picking up Verlander at the deadline.
now
LOL with the subtitle, "The Baltimore Orioles might have been able to make a run in 2023 if they pulled off this trade for a legendary starting pitcher." As if winning the AL East and top seed in the playoffs isn't "making a run." Sheesh, journalism these days.

Roll Tide
The offense stalled…..Verlander wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Being stuck for the rest of his contract wasn’t worth it.
