Bringing up Livan instead of Mayo is an absolute joke.

How many more days until another Mayo promotion keeps him under 45 service days and rookie eligible for 2025?

I believe Mayo earned 13 days of service, and thus could get 31 more without losing rookie status.  August 29 would be the earliest he could be called up and be short of 45 days even if he remains on the roster until the end of the season.

I think hoping for a ROY award and thus an extra draft pick next year would be a poor reason to keep him down now, though.   If the service issue is the only reason to keep Mayo down, then just bring him up now and send him back when Mountcastle comes off the IL.  And, I think the ROY possibility is remote enough where it’s not worth playing that game.

He is at 13 days now so he has 31 days he can use.  I expect he is back up by the Rockies series and stays the rest of the way as the extra guy in September.

They're probably more influenced by the fact he didn't look like a major league 3b and he hit .059 with a 50% K rate.

They probably are adding him as the extra guy in September so he would be on the roster the rest of the way.  You bring him up now and have to send him back he has to stay down 10 days.  I expect they prefer the couple days now then the 10 days in September.

I have to say, Emmanuel Rivera was not impressive defensively at either 1B or 3B yesterday. If that’s what we’re going to get from him defensively, I’d rather let Mayo cut his teeth.

You might be right, but it seems a pretty big ask to throw a rookie into a pennant race like this and ask him to outperform even a AAAA type.

I had heard it was supposed to be Mayo, but I wonder if the trip to the play the Dodgers on the West Coast had anything to do with it?

As much as I am a favor of bringing him up and playing him every day, I wonder if they are weary of playing 3 rookies in the middle of a pennant race isn’t best. I personally 1000% disagree because Mayo can’t be much worse than Rivera or Soto.

He didn’t just struggle he looked incompetent at every facet of the game.

Since going down on 8/15 he’s 6 for 21 (2 XBH) 3 BB & 8 K (33%).  Not terrible, but not setting the world on fire.

I think he has a little work to do at the plate and a lot of work to do in the field before they bring him back.  I don’t think he’s in the playoff plans.

Is he getting reps at first?

    • That would be pretty cool. Just do me a favor and please don't start the magic number thread in June next season.
    • There’s another accomplishment from 1983 I’d like to match.
    • I'm more of a Prime Number guy, I'm happy enough with 89. Round numbers are for suckers.   Pretty disheartening they haven't managed to reach that relatively meager goal in 40 years.
    • Still with a chance to do this for the first time since 1982-83. Would be one more nice accomplishment for this organization.
    • The weird thing about our bullpen is that they rarely blow leads.   They have a 69% save rate, 4th highest in baseball.  They make it scary, but generally, when they have the lead, they get the job done.   Where they are really bad is keeping games close when we’re down a run or two, last night being a classic example of that.   This year’s team has 32 comeback wins, compared to 48 last year.   Why is that?   Part of it is obviously on the offense, but part of it is that the bullpen doesn’t keep us in striking distance when we’re behind.   One way you can tell this is by the W/L records of the starters and the bullpen.  Last year, the starters were 57-40, this year they’re 60-49.   The starter got the decision 12 more times this year than last year, including 9 more losses (with 3 games to play).   That tells you that when the team is losing when the starter is pulled, they keep losing.  Meanwhile, the relievers were 44-21 last year, 28-22 now. They’re not picking up wins because they don’t give the offense a chance to catch up and get the win for the bullpen guy.
    • I do not disagree with above posts.  Also I am pretty sure that this time last season, the Texas Rangers Hangout was saying the exact same things as the Rangers Pen.  Point being, you never know until you know.  The pen is shaky, but is capable of putting together a solid run from time to time.
