Let’s say, hypothetically, that Kimbrel was lights out for the rest of the season beginning with his next appearance.  I think even in that scenario, exercising the option wouldn’t make sense.  He’s just proven to be too inconsistent to warrant $13 mm.  I guess in that scenario I could envision the O’s reupping with him at some lower dollar figure, but I doubt Kimbrel would want to rejoin a team where he’s unlikely to be the closer.

Let's face facts. First, he isnt going to be the pitcher he was, even earlier this season. He's 36, his velocity is down as well as his command. If the Orioles weren't paying him 13 million(with a 1 million buyout) he wouldn't even be on this roster. I'd  consider Brandon Young coming up. He's a big kid with strikeout stuff. Pitched reasonably well last night on his birthday. This bullpen has at least two pitchers who Hyde cant even consider in any kind of tight game.I'd give Young a shot. He couldn't be worse than it already is.

This was a bet by Elias that really blew up in his face. To pay this much money for this kind of performance.

He was excellent earlier in the year when his velocity was a few ticks higher, but it’s dropped as well as his command. I was OK with the Kimbrel acquisition. I was not ok with it being the only real reliever acquired outside of Elias’s typical waiver diving approach.

    • Move Adley and his ailing back to first base. Get rid of Mounty, get rid of O’Hearn.  Our 26 year old leader is already in the back half of his career from a physical perspective. I don’t care what happens to Mayo. Sorry, Roy. Tired of trying to fit in guys who haven’t earned anything.
    • The pitching wasn't the problem this post season. Went out and got an ace and he performed masterfully. I thought Eflin pitched fine as well yesterday.  The bats have been kryptonite all year. Routine plays like sac flies seem almost impossible with this Orioles lineup. It's actually hard not to score in a bases loaded no outs scenario and the Orioles somehow did it quite often.
    • The players coaches and Administration I could see you going after, but the posters that stayed the course and were optimistic? that just seemed a little shallow.Be as how you opened the door for putting posters down, with all the openings that you would have coming up. Maybe the O's could take you on as a consultant.
    • Ragans and Lugo did what they did against us.  You can blame our guys for looking like the toolboxes they are, and that’s fine. But Ragans and Lugo did a good job of getting our swing happy group of dickheads to chase out of the zone, too.  They sure missed hittable pitches but they also didn’t do themselves any favors by hacking at everything, too.  How the f does Tony not know that they’re going to try to get him to chase on a fastball above the zone? How the f does Mounty STILL SWING AT LOW AND OUTSIDE SLIDERS? Ragans and Lugo both had great seasons. Wacha did, too. Boring guys, guys that aren’t “elite” but they certainly shoved against us. You gotta give them some credit, they pitched to our weaknesses and the Orioles didn’t do anything to adjust.
    • He is not a FA.   His service time is 5.170.  He is arb eligible. If Mountcastle is projected at 6.6m I can't see O'Hearn getting more than 5.5m. O'Hearn as little defensive value. There will be discussions about replacing these two but I think Mayo is the future O's 1B.   They just can't go into 2025  ST with Mayo as their best option at 1B. Mayo needs more time at AAA playing 1B IMO.
    • That's fine. Pay some retired journeyman to throw him nothing but fastballs and  changeups 100 times a day.  He doesn't even need to swing, just stand there and watch them.
    • How’d you put this together?
