The bottom line is this. Management is placing $ over wins as far as importance this year

Getting very tired of the old JAG O's trying to score runs when you have youthful BIRDlings in AAA literally breaking records.

And this isn't just a few games the fledglings did this.  They did this all spring training.

If you play guys like Hays, Mateo, Urias, and Kemp?  You get Hays, Mateo, Urias, and Kemp results.

In no way can you win a champinship playing those guys on a daily basis.

Some of you guys can poo poo that all you want, (and you have) but if you think the O's are going to win a WS this year with them?

I will bet you anything you want.

I would rather live and die with guys that will be here for the next 5 years instead of what we see right now on the parent club.

Despite the winning record which has come against two pathetic teams and a few comeback wins, which over a full season you cannot hope to replicate.

The mlb O's need pitching more than anything unless we are going to win games 10-9, which the O's might have to with the AAA O's less than steller defense.

I am actually not sure if this was meant to agree with what I said?  Or argue against it.  :)

That being said I grew up in MI and now live in CA and have never been to Baltimore.  Just was always a O's and Colts fan since I was 3 or since I can remember.

No real idea why lol.

Well, your attitude is sadly not limited to the city limits. But in general, I find it interesting for folks to be fans of things they seem to hate. Maybe find another passion? Or perhaps re-evaluate why your passion is pessimism?

If someone who posts here prefers playing Hays, Mateo, Urias, and Kemp over Holliday, Mayo, Kjerstad and Stowers please speak up immediately. Otherwise OnlyOneOriole will have to continue making do with an increasingly tattered strawman.

Not pessimism.  I am just against playing players who are in no way shape or form better than players who they are blocking.

Not only does it hurt the club win/loss wise, but mentally imo it affects the players....which can also affect wins and losses.

If you can give me a solid argument why players like Hays, Urias, Mateo and Kemp are playing above the guys currently SETTING RECORDS in AAA?

I am all ears.

This is not a club that is just going to hope to finish .500 this year so keeping guys down on the farm doesn't meant much.  This club has WS aspirations.  Every win and loss is crucial.  Especially in our division.  You just can't give away wins.

They are.  And trust me the more the season goes on and those losses add up?  The more that the wins in Sept will mean more.

There is a reason why when the O's brought up guys like Machado and Adley (and even Gunnar) that the team took off.

And it wasn't because we played guys like Jorge Mateo.

That's great.  Understood.  I mean I posted something in the current game day thread....that will be overlooked in a day and never seen again, where as on this thread I believe it has more relevance....but rules are rules so no problem.

FYI still waiting for an apology from you for disrespecting my wife and I for saying we aren't married.

OnlyOneOriole is really Buck who is angry that he isn't O's manager anymore and would put the defensive equivalent of Ty Wigginton w/ 30-40 HR power at every position.  World Series here we come!

Again...I keep asking this and no one answers.

Why are players like Mateo, Urias, Kemp and Hays playing over guys who are younger, hungrier, and most importantly better in a year that we CAN WIN THE WS?

I am all ears.   Don't give me a snarky insult.  TELL ME WHY.

I didn't say anything of the sort and I certainly didn't disrespect the woman in the image.

I don't like it.  I posted multiple threads in the offseason about how the backlog of extra players like Urias, Mateo and O'Hearn should be cleared out.  It was almost predictable that Elias would sign a totally extraneous player like Kemp, in the Odor/Frazier vein.  At the very least, one of Urias/Mateo should have been traded in the offseason, O'Hearn, not brought back, and Holliday and possibly Mayo started in the majors.  Anyway, here we are and Elias is in charge and not us.  Obviously Elias knows what he's doing with the #1 farm system and 101 wins, etc, but would like talent moved to the majors a lot faster.

Yeah  well your exact quote on Thursday at 15;26 in this thread was.....and I quote....

The odds of it actually being his wife are not good.

That was rude and uncalled for.

So I am going to disagree with you there.

Apology incoming?

Fair enough.  Thanks.

    • There’s a good chance McCann starts game one with Burnes. Big roster. We can always move Adley from DH to C late in the game. Lose the DH, but have a big enough bench to just pinch hit and double switch to hide the pitcher’s spot coming up.  So really we’d only be sacrificing 2 ABs from O’Hearn/Mounty/Kjerstad but we get Burnes throwing to his boy every pitch.
    • We would have lost last night regardless due to zero runs scored by the offense. It is worrisome that Cano looked awful in back to back games. After talk about arm soreness. He has been the one reliable guy. Once we fell behind I don't really care how bad Bowman and Baker are. Hopefully they don't even make the roster for the playoffs.
    • Don’t sleep on Povich getting a chance to eliminate the team that traded him away. That kind of stuff matters. The little extra…
    • I do worry about the McCann start although he has been hitting lately, so maybe you can justify it.
    • It’s the 7th inning with Burnes or Eflin on the bump. A tough lefty is coming up. Who you bringing in?  Perez or Coloumbe?
    • My thoughts: - I agree that the Achilles heel is the bullpen and not the offense (especially with Westburg, Mountcastle, Urias, and Kjerstad back). - I also agree that Perez is overused in high leverage situations. This is going to come down to the degree you expect his “clutch” performance to be predictive going forward.  - I second the notion that most good bullpens are built with some degree of dumpster diving.  If you go back to offseason threads, there were not many desired bullpen FA targets (outside of unrealistic ones like Hader) that would have worked out well.  Maybe we haven’t “dumpster dived” well enough as evidenced by the success of Kaleb Ort in Houston. - Jacob Webb hasn’t been sharp since returning from the IL and Bowman has looked shaky his last few times out. - We don’t have a true closer, only a group of mostly effective set-up men in Dominguez, Cano, and Coulombe. - Part of me wishes they would be more aggressive with G-Rod and the Mountain. While we expect the team to continue to contend, you never really know how many times you’ll be back in the playoffs. However, I know in my head they are probably making the right decision. - I also feel like they should be auditioning McDermot, Selby, Young, or Strowd (who has been very good since August after rough Norfolk start). They could option Baker who I think is unlikely to have a path to trusted status after last year’s ALDS performance. This feeling may be mostly driven by dissatisfaction with the current state and wanting something better.  It might be unrealistic to expect options unproven at the MLB level to suddenly step in and be key playoff pieces.
    • Oh if we’re talking about what they will do, I can see it being something stupid like McCann at C and Adley at DH. I do think Mullins has enough veteranosity to outweigh Hyde’s obsession with L/R matchups.
