His defense. By Fielding Bible's metric, been our best defensive player besides Adley over the past two seasons.  His versatility. He rated as an above average defender at 3B, 2B, and 1B.  H

We have a great situation.  But what we are seeing is essentially the pain of asset management.  Yes we have new owners with fat checkbooks.  We also have a GM who has been running an asset collection

It’s ok. It’s not really a small sample size with him, Mullins or Hays.

Why promote Norby to play 2B when they should just promote Holliday?  Norby feels destined to be in the OF or be traded.

You’ve got a real thing for Mullins. It’s really not fair to compare him to the other two. Mullins has shown the ability to be an elite player, or if that was an aberration at least very good. And it isn’t like there is a CF knocking on the door.

I agree but I also think we need to make space for 2 players. Stowers needs to be up Friday and starting in LF or RF.

Urias has trade value this isn't a player you DFA. Maybe trade him for a lower MILB player that has a high ceiling, but isn't established yet.

Fact: Urias produced 4.2 WAR in 2022 that included 16 homeruns and a GoldGlove… I agree with the posters who say you clear Kemp. I’m not advocating keeping Urias just countering your argument that Mullins is different from the other too. 
 

Also I’d move on from Hays and his <.326 OBP. He is never going to be a star and is just solid.

I don’t know the trade value of Hays or Urias. But, I’d think there are some teams where these guys would be an upgrade. So I’d imagine there will be a trade interest. With the Orioles, teams will continue the covet the players that the Orioles don’t want to trade. So the demand for these guys could be less than what you’d hope. Still I think you can get a couple A ball type prospects to keep the bottom of the farm stocked with potential talent.

In that scenario, how long do you leave Holliday down at AAA especially if he keeps hitting the way he has?

Neither is good enough to start on a team with World Series aspirations.

And to the “value” thing, there is such a thing as being “a penny wise and a pound foolish”. Those players may have offered value to the franchise in years gone by, but now all they are doing is holding us up from having a better team. They are classic DFA type players/candidates in an org who as talented as ours.

If Urias was to be traded it needed to happen already. The problem with his “value” now is he has not hit since 2022. It seems the more he plays (and the same applies for Mateo), the more he shows that he is a backup. No good team will want either starting. And let’s not even mention Kemp.

      The weird thing about our bullpen is that they rarely blow leads.   They have a 69% save rate, 4th highest in baseball.  They make it scary, but generally, when they have the lead, they get the job done.   Where they are really bad is keeping games close when we’re down a run or two, last night being a classic example of that.   This year’s team has 32 comeback wins, compared to 48 last year.   Why is that?   Part of it is obviously on the offense, but part of it is that the bullpen doesn’t keep us in striking distance when we’re behind.   One way you can tell this is by the W/L records of the starters and the bullpen.  Last year, the starters were 57-40, this year they’re 60-49.   The starter got the decision 12 more times this year than last year, including 9 more losses (with 3 games to play).   That tells you that when the team is losing when the starter is pulled, they keep losing.  Meanwhile, the relievers were 44-21 last year, 28-22 now. They’re not picking up wins because they don’t give the offense a chance to catch up and get the win for the bullpen guy.

      I do not disagree with above posts.  Also I am pretty sure that this time last season, the Texas Rangers Hangout was saying the exact same things as the Rangers Pen.  Point being, you never know until you know.  The pen is shaky, but is capable of putting together a solid run from time to time.

      Roster Resource thinks it has tonight's lineup and Kjerstad on bench again. He is 7 AB shy of 130 MLB regular season AB with 3 games left, and if he ends up short some prospect list makers may still label him one.    If still with the Orioles, he will be 26 years old by Sarasota. I think the OP has its answer as it has been Cole and Lopez these two nights and the team is preparing for that intensity.

      I’d have brought up Young immediately after DFAing Kimbrel. Baker has no place on this club this year. Would have been nice to see Young up here.

      Yeah, but they could've brought him up a month ago and seen what they might have...And Im not "pining" for Brandon Young, just wondering if he's any better than some we have in the pen..
