Ramon Urias 2024

I believe I saw his OPS was up to .699 during one of the weekend games. Man, a .700 OPS for Urias is pretty nice. I know it “fell” back down a bit, but for a guy that was struggling, that’s a pretty solid number.

Every team over 162 needs a bench with depth behind it in the minors.

Don't look now, but Ramon Urias has a wRC+ of 105 this year in 120 PAs. .333/.393/.588 since Memorial Day. He's making a real contribution to this team.

I’ve been hard on Urias. He’s been playing well. Big game Tuesday night. I still think he and the Orioles would benefit from trading him.

You can go back to May 1 and his wRC+ since then is 155.

If you go back to April 14, his wRC+ is still 134.

He started the season 2-23 and everyone acted like he forgot not to hit, even though there were no signs of it last year.

I'm guilty of wanting to give up on Santander, Hays, Mullins, and Urias at points this year. Thankfully, Mike and co are in charge and not me.

I absolutely wanted Urias gone for a couple of months, and Hays as well.

Yes eventually, but who would take his spot now? He almost the perfect definition of utility infielder. Plays multiple infield positions at above defense plus there is some offensive production. His replacement is in Milwaukee. Another example of the Vets making it next to impossible (minus injuries) to give the guys in AAA a chance, it started with Mateo then slowly To Urias and Hays, and dont look now, but thees Cedric magically coming back to life. He had to nursing injury. I love this team.

@Sports Guy is the current leader in my book for post of the year, but this one is a close 2nd.

Haha thanks. I consider myself pretty rational (relative to the avg game thread poster) but if you're not getting caught up in the emotion of the games and occasionally demanding a good player gets run out of town, what fun is all this?

Part of it is of course just coincidence based on when I am watching, but I don't think I have seen Urias hit a ball hard the entire year. It seems like all of the at bats I watch are either strike outs or pop ups. If I was to guess his OPS, there would be zero chance I'd guess it starts with a "7". He would have been the first "regular" guy I would jettison TF out of here when we likely shake up the roster a bit with some trades. I'm glad he's back to contributing.

Definitely a coincidence...

Just yesterday he had a batted ball that was clocked at 107 mph (albeit for a FC).

The night before (Weds game), he had a HR at 102 mph

On Tuesday, he had a single that touched 103 mph

    • Still with a chance to do this for the first time since 1982-83. Would be one more nice accomplishment for this organization.
    • The weird thing about our bullpen is that they rarely blow leads.   They have a 69% save rate, 4th highest in baseball.  They make it scary, but generally, when they have the lead, they get the job done.   Where they are really bad is keeping games close when we’re down a run or two, last night being a classic example of that.   This year’s team has 32 comeback wins, compared to 48 last year.   Why is that?   Part of it is obviously on the offense, but part of it is that the bullpen doesn’t keep us in striking distance when we’re behind.   One way you can tell this is by the W/L records of the starters and the bullpen.  Last year, the starters were 57-40, this year they’re 60-49.   The starter got the decision 12 more times this year than last year, including 9 more losses (with 3 games to play).   That tells you that when the team is losing when the starter is pulled, they keep losing.  Meanwhile, the relievers were 44-21 last year, 28-22 now. They’re not picking up wins because they don’t give the offense a chance to catch up and get the win for the bullpen guy.
    • I do not disagree with above posts.  Also I am pretty sure that this time last season, the Texas Rangers Hangout was saying the exact same things as the Rangers Pen.  Point being, you never know until you know.  The pen is shaky, but is capable of putting together a solid run from time to time.
    • Roster Resource thinks it has tonight's lineup and Kjerstad on bench again. He is 7 AB shy of 130 MLB regular season AB with 3 games left, and if he ends up short some prospect list makers may still label him one.    If still with the Orioles, he will be 26 years old by Sarasota. I think the OP has its answer as it has been Cole and Lopez these two nights and the team is preparing for that intensity.
    • I care I bet the over on 88 wins, looked like a lock now not so much, come on O’s, daddy needs some new shoes
    • I’d have brought up Young immediately after DFAing Kimbrel. Baker has no place on this club this year. Would have been nice to see Young up here.
    • Yeah, but they could've brought him up a month ago and seen what they might have...And Im not "pining" for Brandon Young, just wondering if he's any better than some we have in the pen..
