Most local announcers on tv these days are terrible.   I just watched on mlb.com the NESN broadcast of the Clemens 20 strike out game from 1986 .  I was struck by how good the two announcers were and how their style differed from today's game.  Surprisingly they weren't homers.   They seemed to be appreciating the pitching dual between Clemens and Mike Moore as much as I was.   I was struck by how their voices remained calm the entire time.   I thought of Melanie the other night who seemed to be talking in a high pitched 'excited' voice for most of the game.   That 'excited' Melanie voice just sounded so fake.   I think she has a nice voice if she talks normally and uses the correct words.

I’m a little surprised no one has touched on the long, awkward pauses. There are lots of times of just dead silence. Not like a moment where something amazing is happening but just between pitches like she’s just run out of things to say. Times normally when KB would jab at Big Ben and get him started. But if I’m being honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of Angel/Manfra either. They would report a hit and it would literally be a minute before I knew if it was a single or a double.

Yes, it's much more interesting to listen to Brown making vague references to movies only five people have ever seen!
