The 2024 Trade Deadline

What do you mean by this? He was a guy current management targeted in a trade.

They highly value strike throwers.  I haven seen them tolerate a pitcher who walks batters as much as he does.  He reminds me a lot of DL Hall.

Me neither.  I figured it was something out of Harry Potter.

I kind of figured that with CoC it may be best not to enter "haruspex" into any search while in the office lol

The draft starts 5 weeks from Sunday...I'll be surprised if Elias pays any seller's early high price that far before the deadline.

It looks like MLB has slotted the trade deadline on a Tuesday at 6:00pm, another 16 days after that.

Starting tonight, a current gray area team like the Rays has 44 games between now and then with the All-Star break and the offdays, making the current series almost 10% of the results they will get to see between now and then.

DL's K/BB rate improved dramatically in the relief role

They tolerated Hall for 5 years and I’m pretty sure they would have been happy to have him in this years bullpen if he wasn’t part of the Burnes trade.

You must have not really looked much into Detmers numbers.

He’s an excellent target for us, for so many reasons.

Please elaborate as to why you think a guy who was demoted to AAA on a non contending team is an excellent target, particularly for the 2024 ballclub.

He was a 1st round draft pick and had a live arm, of course they tolerated him.  He also only pitched 33 total innings for the Os in those 5 years.  Not sure the 2024 version would be on the 26 man.  I hope he rebounds when he comes back from the knee injury.  Sounds like that could be soon.

I’m not sure what you mean when you say you haven’t seen them tolerate a pitcher who doesn’t throw strikes.   They showed a lot of patience with Hall and put him in the bullpen in the middle of a division push and then in the playoffs.  He did quite well.    McDermott could go in a trade but I think they’d rather hold onto him.

Maybe I’m off base, but to me when the new FO took over one of the biggest changes I noticed was an emphasis on pitchers that threw the ball over the plate and didn’t give out as many free passes.

BBs last 6 complete season.

2017 579

2018 589

2019 462

2021 451

2022 443

2023 473

Ray DF'd Harold Ramirez, is there any interest? He is hitting .268 and only 29 years old. Only has 1 Homer. He'll probably be claimed before we have a chance.

The good news is Ramirez can't kill us like he always has.

I’ll try again.  What do you mean when you say they won’t tolerate a pitcher who doesn’t throw strikes?

I mean that that pitcher is going to have a very short leash on how long they put up with the free passes and they will move on quickly.
