If the Marlins threw in Rogers with Scott it'd at least give us more flexibility with our rotation. I'd still expect Rogers to do better for us as the #5 than the Irvin/Povich/Suarez/McDermott jumble, and there's upside that he can get back to how he threw in previous years since he's under club control through 2026.

2021 was his only decent year so far and he was injured for most of 2023.  I like him as a project too, but he's not any kind of upgrade for the rest of this season.

He ***IS*** left handed.

There's that. As long as he's cheap, sure. He looks like Cole Irvin to me.

I think Cole Irvin is about his floor, with upside to be more in a better organization than Miami has been during his time there.

He's optionable too, so we could tinker with him at Norfolk for a bit with less pressure. Might even be able to pick up a third full year of control if he stays down long enough IIRC.

Unless this was just a complete fluke, his 2021 season where he struck out 157 in 133 innings. Can we get him back to that? Re: Trevor Rogers

A number of teams seem to think so, per the reporting about his robust market.

A little surprised there wasn’t more activity in the morning across the league. Curious if there’s something holding it all up and then a bunch of dominoes will fall after.

My guess is it’s Crochet - I don’t see the Dodgers ending today without Crochet or Flaherty. If they can’t get Crochet, they’ll probably have a 50 FV prospect on the table for Flaherty that nobody else wants to top.

Yankees seem to want Flaherty and then to trade Cortes, that’s pretty complicated to accomplish if it’s not coming together soon. And it could be that their offer for Scott is contingent on what they get for Cortes.

I would be surprised if the Dodgers don't get Crochet.  The rich get richer.  He wants a big extension and I don't see how O's can do it w/o extending Gunnar & Adley.  Dodgers won't even blink.

Yankees got Leiter, hopefully the O’s get Scott then.

Actually pretty happy with this return. Cowles wasn't a big name prior to this season, but he has drastically cut down on his K rate in 2024 and is torching AA albeit at age 24. Neely can basicly step into the pen tomorrow if they needed him to.

Premium price?  That is speculation correct?

He said he wouldn't pitch in the playoffs without a contract extension.

You think he isn't going to expect what top MLB pitchers are getting, given his strikeout rate and other numbers?

The point is, that for a player of his experience, there is a normal arbitration process, and he clearly wants more of a guarantee than that.   Obviously it's his right to ask that, but when part of his value is the fact that he is under team control for 2.5 seasons, basically saying you won't pitch in the playoffs unless a team commits beyond that immediately makes him less valuable.    Cavaet emptor.

Again with this.

That's twice now I've seen this mentioned in the last hour.

Has it come out that Crochet wants a big extension?

Yes he want's an extension (guaranteed money).

I get why he does (he's making 800K and has no guaranteed earnings going forward).

I've not heard a bit about what kinda terms he's looking for.

I don't think he's going to be asking to sign a 10 year deal.

I don't think he's going to be asking for 20M a year.

Maybe he will be, but he might just be looking for a reasonable extension for someone with his level of service time.

Leiter Jr. misses bats but prior to July, he was pretty bad.

2.11 FIP, 2.43 xFIP, 2.61 xERA his LOB% is 15-20% low and will eventually correct itself. He's nails as a reliever.
