Tate has been throwing 95 the last few outings.

Yeah? My apologies. The last time I saw him it was low 90s and I saw on the pitch that got hammered for the loss the other day it was 92 so I assumed not much had changed. Good news, that.

One thing to consider here is that we have all new pitching coach staff now. So he doesn’t know them and they don’t know him. That’s not necessarily a deal breaker but it could factor in. He won’t be working directly with the same voices as 2022/23 if he does come back.

How would options work with a veteran like him if he signs a minor league contract? Can he be an up-and-down guy?

I could be wrong but I think once you are out of options and off your rookie deal you get to approve (or deny) any re-assignment. So he'd have to be OK with the shuttle, which of course he probably would not be.

Maybe the door is open for a return with Coloumbe hitting the IL.  He cleared waivers and got outright cut.  He'd probably take a milb deal for us and would cost the min. with the Mets already on the hook for his 2024 salary.   Heck, the Mets might cut Fuji too after giving him guaranteed money this offseason.

I think he and/or Castillo would be good temporary adds to support the bullpen until the deadline.

He's been terrible since he was traded two years ago. He refused a minor league assignment with us last year. He can find somewhere else to pitch terribly.

Anything to support this? As bad as Baker was last season, he was still much better than Lopez.

His 6.55 ERA in triple A this year and he’s been pitching well recently.
