Anybody who thinks there is a possibility of that happening has lost their mind.

Bergesen was a much better bet to eat innings than Eaton or Baez.

Haha, Oh no, I don't think this could happen in a million years.

So far, though, it is the only far-fetched thing I can say that would justify this rediculous move.

I guess the O's want to give the journyman and optionLESS pitchers a chance in April before we bring up a young polished gun like Bergy.

So I guess we are looking at Penn, Pauley, Hill, Eaton, Simon, Baez, Bass and Hendrickson as the last 3 pitchers in the rotation to start the season.

I am guessing the bullpen locks are

C Sherrill

SU Ray, JJ

MR Albers, Safarte

Loggy Walker

If they go with 13 pitchers, that leaves 2 spots (maybe 3 if Albers is optioned) to the bullpen.

Prediction:

Eaton, Simon and Baez are starters

Hill goes the DL

Albers, Hendrickson and Penn in the bullpen.

They try to pass Pauley through waivers but it doesnt happen.

Bass is optioned.

Bass, Liz, Perez, Bergy, McCroy and Mickilio all are waiting on someone to falter.

I knew this was coming but I'm still furious. Like I said in another post the O's have absolute disdain for thier own players and they are going to kill organization morale. There's no doubt in my mind that this is McPhail's doing and Bergesen was slated for Norfolk even before ST began. Exactly what is the reason to watch this team this year?

That sky is rapidly falling.

No offense Moose, but it's always one poster on here who has to "play it cool" and point out that everyone else is freaking out...that's just silly. Stop man, but regardless I understand where you are coming from.

1. This is the typical OH reaction to everything.

2. Did anyone think he realistically had a shot?

3. He won't be down for long anyway.

I've NEVER been one of those "the sky is falling" posters on here, but this move just does not sit well with me to say the least. Does Bergesen make or break this team, no, but this move is just beyond comprehension.

Not really. Bergesen is not a particularly highly touted prospect and he has some things he needs to work on, namely, getting out lefthanded hitters. He performed well in limited time this spring, but I doubt the Orioles are going to base their decision solely on ST results against B and C lineups.

Now, I'm not saying you have to agree with the move, but to say it's "beyond comprehension" isn't accurate, IMO.

I know you're angry but Nick Markakis, Matt Wieters, Adam Jones, Brian Roberts, Felix Pie, and Radhames Liz all say "Hi"

Wieters will be down for the first two very uninteresting weeks...:(

...And Liz will be pitching in the minors.

Other then that, yes, I'm looking forward to Nick, Adam, And Felix and their overall progression.

Oh and I'm really looking forward to seeing Danys Baez starting for us! What Fun! Lol!

Evidently, it's pitchforks and anger time. The horror, the horror.

Personally, I expect that if he keeps doing well, we'll see him in BAL before too long.

I agree we'll probably see some folks take this way too hard, but it is a questionable move by the O's. Bergesen had pitched better than anyone else in the spring and he doesn't get to at least stick around till the end. Hopefully, they feel that Uehara and Hill are going to be able to start the season. If not, I think we made a mistake.

Well, that answers one question. Apparently Spring Training doesn't meal a whole lot to MacPhail. I can see the logic of seasoning the young guys but in a year where the rotation looks like a MASH unit, Bergesen probably could have eaten some innings. I know he'll be back but I'm not thrilled with Eaton, Penn, or any of the other has beens or never were's.

Just an FYI. A lot of players have jumped from AA to the majors. Eddie Murray comes to mind.

    • Fantastic pickup by Elias and big kudos to O’Hearn for taking advantage of the resources to improve. He’s a great story.
    • Given his injury history and what’s happening right now, Means may make more money as an Oriole next year than as a free agent. He may have to settle for league minimum as a FA but would do better than that in arbitration. Heck, unless he’s effective at least a little this year then the orioles might release him after the season to avoid paying more than league minimum. I hope Means recovers, very much so, but this scenario is possible imo.    ps. I guess I ignored the part where you said if Means thinks he is healthy.
    • What I'd like to see in the next game Holliday plays, is for him to keep his eyes following through on the ball when he swings. In the last game I saw, he was yanking his head off the zone when he swung and couldn't see the bat to the ball. He was missing wildly and it wasn't even competitive. So, keep your eye on the ball! Follow all the way through! If your swing is so violent that it's yanking your head off the sight of the ball, then adjust your mechanics because you can't hit what you can't see!
    • What a great example of pedantic! Please tell us you meant to do that. I honestly can’t tell these days.
    • Well it certainly doesn't look like he'll be winning Rookie of Year award. And if we send him down for like the tiniest amount of time, we get him for another year, right? I think if this poor hitting continues it's financial mismanagement not to send him back down. Grayson got sent down and came back way better.
    • He certainly isn't a bust but I wasn't happy with the pick at the time and I don't love using the second overall pick for that type of player profile. Westburg signed for slot so he's irrelevant but Mayo was a great use of the money saved.
