  1. 1. Should the O's be interested in Joe Koshansky?

No, but Moore probably will. Brazell is nothing, and Salazar is just an older version of Koshansky. But all Koshansky would be is mediocre depth in case Huff gets hurt. Maybe you could use him to cobble together some kind of platoon.

This is a truly minor loss, if you can call it that. Koshansky's offense in OPACY would be a direct replacement for the 2008 version of Kevin Millar.

Moore will likely be the starting 3B man at Norfolk. And a platoon of Wigginton and Koshansky could have been productive at the ML level IMO if it came to that. Koshanksy can be a useful ML part IMO.

It may be a minor loss, but it's still a missed opportunity and one that there can be no excuses for.

We? Do you work with McKamey or are you referring to your site?

Sorry, yeah, the Depot. I was referring to what Nick and I do over there. I guess I don't really talk about enough for others to realized what I meant by we.

Koshansky got a 90 some post thread....really? No seriously...really? This guy was really worth that many posts...really? Let me fast forward this for you two years: Koshansky = AAAA. Done. We don't have much at the corners, but we don't need to add another AAAA guy, that's just running in place. This thread is completely and utterly ridiculous. Wow...

Haha. My thoughts exactly. I thought after it reached seven pages, I'd check it out to see if it had become a thread about what player has the best TV cop name. That could go seven pages on a slow Sunday easily.

I think he would have been worth a waiver claim.

Obviously he's no major loss though. Anybody claiming this as a major mistake by the front office is obviously using a whole truckload of hyperbole.

Well, JTrea only deals in bulk-rate.

Let's not get too crazy here. Craig Brazell is all power, nothing else. He's a guy who, given 500 at bats in the majors, would probably hit .180/.230/.425. He's Rob Deer without the plate discipline.

Well you got me, I was trying to make the case that Brazell should be the next 1B of the Orioles. Actually, I was just trying to say thay Brazell has the same/better power than Koshansky.

This is what I don't understand Trea... you throw a tantrum when the Orioles get Pie because we have a glut of OFer's in the system - you blame it on incompetance by MacPhail and his staff. But you glorify the Rangers for being "the best minor league system in baseball" when they sign a 1B when they already have your self proclaimed next Babe Ruth waiting in the wings (along with other high quality 1B types).

It sounds to me like the Rangers are trying to accumulate talent - just like the O's... but of course the O's are bad... BAD!

I was fine with the Pie acquisition, what I'm not fine with is him not having to earn a spot despite being outplayed by two other players.

And the Rangers are the best farm system in baseball according to places like BA and ESPN. They have both pitching and hitting in the minors and are loaded at every position. Instead of the Rays, we should be looking at the Rangers who aren't afraid to trade top pitching for hitting, and have built quite the scouting and development system under Daniels in a short period of time. The Rangers obviously saw something they liked in Koshansky while the Orioles obviously felt that Brazell and Salazar were good enough for 1B at Norfolk...

Actually, no. Several teams lack a standout 1B or a good 1B above hiA ball. Just because you have a guy like Mike Carp in your system does not mean you do not try to upgrade.

Are you really saying that JoKo is valuable? He isn't. Anyway you cut it. He is not a valuable prospect. Whether you want to note how he has never made a Rockies top 10 prospect list or whether you want to note how the Rockies did not trade him . . . rather released him even though he had options.

I mean . . . come on.

Just curious, how does he grade on your scale and what does he project to?

Casey Kotchman says hello...

Come on now...Kotchman was a prized prospect, we are talking about glorified table scraps here (exaggeration I know...) and its not like SG does this every week. You can pick out one guy he overhyped in the last few years, you do this every couple of days.

It's just another 1B option that the Orioles have let slip away in the past 10 years...

Lee, Delgado, Konerko, Pena, Smoak, Teixeira, and now Koshanksy, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few...

Brandon Snyder is going to fix everything though.

So, amazingly enough, Smoak and the mighty Koshansky are automatically going to be associated with three of the best 1B of the past ten years, an up and comer who has had two very good seasons, and a former allstar who is quickly fading.

YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS UP! Seriously. :clap3::confused:

So, here I am at the bottom of Page 1 in a thread about a guy I never heard of, who is just got cut... and I see that the thread now has 8 pp so far. So, I'm wondering, "How on earth does it happen that this guy I never heard of winds up getting 7 *more* pages?" I don't know the answer yet, but I'm about to find out.

However, I see that JTrea has pegged him a superior choice than Scott Moore for AAA-1B... so, my hunch is that about 40% of the remaining posts are from JTrea, and most of the rest are people trying to convince him of something. I am now about to discover if my hunch is right or wrong...

Well, I was sorta right and sorta wrong. Here's how:

  • Sorta wrong: Of the 99 intervening posts, 24 of them were by JTrea, which works out to 24.2%. So, the bad news is that my estimate of 40% was way off.
  • Sorta right: With only a couple exceptions, the other 75 posts were somehow in response to JTrea, either direct responses, or responses about responses, etc. So, virtually all of the 7pp was definitely "Powered by JTrea" (like most F1 cars used to be "Powered by Ford" in decades gone by).

JTrea is generating about 3 responses per post. So, if you look at it that way, he's very efficient. And, if you go by word count, it's probably something like 20:1 instead of just 3:1. Since folks like stats, I thought you might wanna know.

Personally, it leaves me kinda depressed. Why? Because it demonstrates how inefficient I am. Most of the time, I'm just talking to myself and nobody responds unless they get steamed at something I said. So I can't touch his 3:1. For me, it's more like 0.0001:1. That's a very poor response-ratio, so I'm hopelessly inefficient. And that's just counting posts. If I went by word count, well, you can just imagine how bad that would be.
