Lee wanted more $ to extend in Baltimore which the Orioles wouldn't pay, Konerko wasn't offered enough to leave Chicago who he won the WS with the year before, and as for Delgado, the Orioles wouldn't budge from their offer which was a lowball even though Delgado wanted to play for the Orioles and wound up losing him to the Marlins.

Trea, can you ever admit that some of these players just didn't want to play in Baltimore and it was not a low ball offer?

Then why don't they win? Thye may ahve the best farm system but it doesn't translate into the big club.

Yet.

The Orioles have a top-10 farm system. How come they haven't won anything since '97?

Remember, in JTreaWorld there are only two answers to any question. When it comes to salary negotiations they are "blow the guy away with the largest offer you can fathom" or "stick your tail between your legs and accept 55 wins a year forever."

He extended because his father was in the Cubs organization. And it wasn't less. He signed a 5/65 extension and he only wanted 4/32 from the Orioles IIRC.

No, it was 3/$22m that he signed in February 2004. His current contract of 5/$65m was signed in April 2006. So, yes Lee did sign for less than what he wanted from the Orioles.

I stand corrected, however Lee described the situation in Chicago as being a better fit, likely because of his father being in the organization.

The Orioles only had to pay him a little more for his services than they were offering.

The bottom line is that the Orioles aren't making their best effort to fill first base and haven't been for the past 11 years. Moose may laugh at me, but I think there's something to not having a slugging first baseman that is making us lose. And remember, Huff was at DH for the majority of last year.

If he plays 1B full time this season, this might be the first year we'll have since Palmeiro in '98 with the chance at an 130 OPS+ at the position.
