This sounds like another John Maine to me :(

...at least in the Maine deal we had the pleasure of dumping Jorge Julio as well.

The Marlins are super smart when it comes to acquiring talent. No disrespect to McPhail, but if it's the Marlins vs AM... I'm taking the Marlins in this trade.

just because penn is young doesn't mean he should automatically get a chance. The kid has shown no consistency this spring against a bunch of out of shape hitters and minor leaguers. If he can't get them out (and look at his stats, he hasn't in years) then why would you expect anything from him? I hope he does well, but this is a good trade for the O's.

I hope Hayden Penn does great and turns out for them like Jeremy Gurthrie turned out for us. Really, I do.

ps: Miami is as far from me as ATL is from BAL, but I'm blacked out on Marlins games on MLB-EI anyway. I never cared before this. I would like to watch Penn pitch, just to see.

Penn may be one of those guys where a "change of scenery" may be a good thing.

I wish nothing but the best for Mr. Penn.

Agreed on both counts. Penn was one season away from being made redundant by the "Cavalry", and Andino was blocked in Florida. Both guys are out of options, and both seemed to be crying out for a change of scenery.

I hope this transaction works well for both teams.

His defense could be unbelievable, Andino's UZR/150 at SS in 2008 was 65.6!!!!!

(Don't check the sample size)

It's not impossible to estimate his defensive ability though. According to minorleaguesplits, he was worth about +7 runs over the course of 423 games, which extrapolates to about +2.5 runs over a full 150 game season. Over the past 3 years, that puts him somewhere between Jose Reyes (+4.1) and Bobby Crosby (+1.6), using UZR/150 for the major leaguers. It makes him better than Jack Wilson (+0.8) and Khalil Greene (-1.8), both of whom are considered good defenders at SS.
