2024 12th Round Pick (#369): Andrew Tess - C - (HS) Calvary Christian HS (FL)

Recommended Posts

Players can be signed for up to $150,000 without it affecting an organization's overall bonus pool.  For any bonus above that mark, the overage beyond $150,000 counts toward the pool.

Andrew Tess is a 2024 C/SS, OF with a 6-0 186 lb. frame from Clearwater, FL who attends Calvary Christian. Prototypical, durable, catchers frame with lean muscle. At the plate, starts in a slightly open stance with hands close to his body. Employs a pull approach, trying to lift the ball. Shows an unfinished swing, cutting it off on the follow-through. Defensively behind the plate Tess starts in a side-saddle position. Replaces his feet well with smooth transfers on his throws to second base. Arm pulls down hard and creates some carry. Clocked a 7.0 60-yard dash. Excellent student.

So it was mentioned that if they sign this guy, he'll be over slot.

I know nothing about him, but I see 76+ mph from much younger catchers. That number jumped out at me as meh. I wonder if it's up to date. Sometimes these guys get measured once and those numbers just stick in their profile for years.

The PG link above has his C Velo at 78 two years ago.  Excellent for a HS C.  Sub-2 pop time plays.

Ok. That makes much better sense. Like I said, sometimes they get measured and the numbers stick for years. There are only so many showcases that you want to pay to go to.
