When are we going to find a real closer?

This. I don't understand the hatred toward Flat Breezy. Though he gives the most steadfast and hearty of us heart problems, he gets the job done. We could be stuck with that lunatic, BS idea of a closer by committee, so let's be glad of who we have, warts and all.

It is not "hatred" of GS. I personally love the guy. I do not want to see him leave. I think (and I think where this thread is coming from) he is better as a set up man. I would rather see a dominate-Paplebon-like closer finish off games in the 9th and have GS and JJ do the 7/8.

I love GS and do not want to see him traded unless we get an absolute steal.

I love Sherrill and all' date=' especially as a lefty specialist, but he just doesn't have the closer stuff.. I guess were stuck with him there for now. He'd be so much more valuable if he could be used like he was in Seattle..[/quote']

We have one. He got the save. Yes, he made it close but the O's win. Flat Breezy got the save. Pie, bless his heart got his first HR. So i am happy. 5 and 2.

Why dont we wait till he starts blowing saves before we run him out of town:rolleyes:

We can't do that. It would make too much sense. You know there are those onthis board that will never be happy. No matter what. If it isn't Pie, it is Sherrill or Eaton. If not one of them it is Andy or DT. They will always find fault with someone.

I've seen some of you list Liz or Erbe as possible closer options in the future. Don't forget that Miller and Mickolio are also both projected to be future closers, and they aren't too far away. McCrory and Hoey used to be looked as "closer" material, but I don't know if that's true anymore. They've fallen a bit.

I think Ray deserves a shot at holding down the closer role. It would be nice to give him the chance at it this year while it means nothing but they are not going to do that the GS.

I'm not a huge Sherrill as closer fan either, but I'd still rather have Sherrill closing games than Ray. I don't think he has the killer mentality for it. Plus with his mechanics being tweaked the last thing you want is him in there when the game is on the line in the 9th.

For crying out loud, he got the save...in a 10-9 ballgame. Let me size that for emphasis:10-9

Let's not overlook the fact that this means not many pitchers were exactly lights out last night for either team. He gave us a heart attack. It happens. We won. Move on.
