Is Tom Davis clueless?

It's called being an informed fan. Someone who actually gives a crap about the entire organisation and, tries to understand what the team is building towards.

Not, "this is a big league city and that's all we should talk about" grumble grumble...

I disagree. Its callled having nothing positive to focus on because the big league team has been a disaster for so long.

What the hect are you talking about?

Markakis, Roberts, Huff, Jones, Koji, BB...you know good stuff

Soon to be Wieters, etc.

They are all apart of the same topic.

There wouldn'tbe a market for the minor league team's attention if something wasn't driving it. Maybe Davis doesn't realize this is one of the oldest teams in baseball and is constituted with a bunch of has beens and retreads. People want to see new blood. The O's don't have a single lockdown reliever,Johnson and Albers are probably pitching hurt, the bottom of the order is beyond dreadful and we're supposed to call in and talk about that?

This is a team that finds a way to lose and it's been that way for a few years now. It's one thing to have a talent deficit but another to not keep your head in the game and bear down and accept losing. Younger guys have more at stake and more to prove when they get here because their future is ahead of them.Even if Eaton or Hendrickson pitches well,it's nothing to get excited about because they'll be gone sooner than later. The longer the younger guys stay down, the longer it's going to take to compete, the current roster isn't competitive.

Wonder what they're saying in Japan about Koji getting yanked last night?

Also, kinda back on topic...the 105.7/MASN area ranges to Bowie and Frederick.

Good call! What about those people you live in Fredrick and Bowie who mostly go to MiL games...

I guess they shouldn't call in or for that matter listen at all.

Tom Davis, Dave Johnson, Jim Hunter and Anita Marks all have one thing in common:

They all are paid by the Orioles to report on the Orioles and are so scared for their jobs that they try to defend or ignore every bad or negative occurrence that happens to the O's. .

They have zero credibility and I stopped listening to any inane comments they attempt to discuss a long time ago...

At least Garceau, Palmer, Dempsey and Thorne have enough security in themselves to actually offer honest opinions and not just gloss over everything with a happy, orange brush.

Tom Davis was an inadequate "sideline reporter" back in the days of Super Tv and HTS, so it goes without saying that not much has improved over the past 20 years as far as he is concerned... sad, but true.

I couldn't agree more. Davis is just a bafoon. He has no clue. He never has. Your post pretty much nails it. Although I just think Marks has absolutely no idea what she is talking about when it comes to baseball! No idea.

    • A key variable is how (in)expensive each theoretical player and future years of control. i think the Os prefer to have mixture of player types, and hope that strategic deployment can have either A, B, or C in exceed their production norms.
    • I'm going with two mids, a fat and a skinny. Anyone gets that reference, I'll buy you a beer if I ever see you at Camden Yards.
    • Wait, how do you assess if a player is ready or not if not for how they perform at the major league level? How do you assess that a player was not rushed when he's putting up historically bad numbers to start off a career? Now I agree with you that Elias has a better feel for when he should go back down or not, but I don't think Holliday has proven anybody wrong who thinks he was rushed. His performance so far if anything has proven them right.  Can he right the ship and prove them wrong, sure, but so far, anyone who says he was absolutely ready have been proven wrong. He's not been just unlucky, he's been terrible at every measurable attribute we have for hitting.  There is also a misnomer that players can not learn anything else at a previous level. That's just wrong. Having statcast data now shows there is major league caliber stuff in AAA, it's just often not consistent.  Plus, the ability to just relax a little work on the things the major league coaches have him working on in a less stressful environment can also be a plus. He has 147 AA PAs under his belt that he put up a respectable .899 OPS, but he's also a kid who had a 105 PA stretch last year in High-A ball where he put up a .183/.362/.232/.594 slash line where he had two extra base hits and basically only got on base by walking against bad command High-A ball pitchers.  Holliday has a tremendous amount of talent, and he's going to be fine in the long run, but I disagree that sending him back to AAA will do him no good. Will having him set more futility records to start a major league career be helpful? If we get swept in a series and he goes 0-for does that mean he's now hurting the team? I'm ok with leaving it up to Elias/Hyde to make that decision, but I would have zero issues if they sent him back to reset for bit.
    • Suppose you have three players in an organization who play the same position.  Player A is +10 runs on offense but -10 runs on defense.  Player B is -10 runs on offense but +10 runs on defense.  Player C is average on both offense and defense.   Which player would you choose to be on your team? And is your answer different depending on which position we’re talking about? Apart from your preference, do you think the Orioles have a preference? For purposes of my questions, no copping out by saying it depends who else is on the team.
    • And if age was the ONLY data point we used for projection, you MIGHT then have a point.  But its not, and you don't.
    • If Kjerstadt hits well I see no reason to send him back down, he could DH if necessary, good teams find a place for a good hitter.
