BUT YOU KNOW WHICH ONES ARE LIKELY TO DO WELL OVER TIME. WIETERS BY EVERY CONCEIVABLE INDICATOR AND REPORT IS LIKELY NOT GUARANTEED BECAUSE NO PROSPECT LIKE ANY STOCK IS GUARANTEED TO DO WELL BUT YOU CERTAINLY HAVE A BETTER IDEA THEN YOUR HIGH SCHOOL CRAPSHOOTS WHICH HAVE NO SUCH ASSURANCES.

Even if Weiters doesn't get injuried you have no idea what his career is going to be like. He could be a HOFer or never make it to the bigs.

Stocks report earnings and report their ESTIMATED earnings for years in advance. You could then just use the standard P/E Ratio for the Sector and figure out what the Stock would be priced at. Now if Wieters is a penny stock, it isn't even worth investing into(especiallly 6-10 mill dollars).

I havnt seen anybody bring this up yet.....the nats signed Detwiler for $2.15 with the 6th and Borass wants 10 mil for Wieters at #5:eek:

As of right now, Wieters is a worthy investment. The negatives, aside from not owning a crystal ball, are next to nil. If they pay him what he's asking and falls flat on his face, the fact is that it is/was an intelligent decision at the time.

I'll say it again...the Orioles are in NO position to haggle at this point. The PR fallout at failing to sign their highly-regarded first rounder could be insurmountable.

There is no way in hell that he gets 10+ and he would look exteremly foolish to walk away from 6 million.

No deal yet for Orioles, Loewen

Club still negotiating with last year's top pick as deadline approaches

Facing a midnight deadline to sign last year's first-round draft pick Adam Loewen, the Orioles' front office spent Memorial Day cloistered in the B&O warehouse, still hopeful they could work out a deal with the 19-year-old pitcher.

"It's moving along," Orioles vice president Mike Flanagan said at 3 p.m.

"We're still feeling very good about it."

About four hours later, Flanagan relayed a message through his executive assistant, Ann Lange, saying, "We've still got a ways to go," and the situation was still unresolved going into the 11th hour.

Loewen's adviser, Michael Moye, declined to comment on the negotiations, keeping consistent with the policy he has maintained since the Orioles made Loewen the fourth overall pick in the June amateur draft.

The Orioles failed to sign Loewen last summer, so he attended Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla. The sides were unable to negotiate until Chipola's season ended on May 10.

A 6-foot-6 left-handed pitcher, Loewen went 6-1 with a 2.47 ERA this season, and the Orioles had scouts and front office officials at every one of his outings. Last year, Moye told the Orioles that Loewen would not sign for less than $3.9 million, and they said they would not offer more than $2.5 million.

In recent days, Orioles officials indicated that the gap was narrowing, but they declined to reveal dollar amounts. If Loewen didn't sign last night, he'd be available again in the June 3 draft, and the Orioles would receive a supplemental round pick (No. 37 overall) as compensation.
