What did DT do wrong tonight?

Where do I start?

1. First and foremost, how awful has this team been without Luke Scott? Without Luke Scott, I think this team might be 8-9 games under 500 instead of 6.

2. I've been saying it all year, Trembley knows jack squat about hit and runs. I see him call them ALL the time, and every time I can recall, they've either failed completely AND/OR they ended up in 2 outs.

3. Juan Samuel. Make up you bloody mind. You're a windmill and they end up being terrible calls, and then when you're supposed to be watching the runner at 3rd, and BAM a pickoff at 3rd base. Inexcusable. Trembley, I hold you somewhat responsible since you love aggressive baseball, but aggressive baseball doesn't need to be irresponsible, idiotic baseball. Samuel. Can him. Or at least cut down the windmill effect. FWIW, I watched the game, and on Luke Scott's double I would have sent Huff, but MASN didn't show the full field to see where Huff was. Either way, if I don't send Huff, I certainly don't let him get picked off at 3rd.

4. Can we stop the Mora batting fifth? How terrible has he been lately? So he got a double yesterday, so what? He's been gutless and clutchless for quite some time now. This is a huge reason why "clutch" hitters don't last long. Mora hasn't been that for some time.

5. Can we give Markakis and Roberts some time off. Please? Sure, they're off tomorrow, but that doesn't excuse how much Trembley has run these guys into the ground. Mora gets off the DL, and despite extremely poor performance, it's reward, reward, reward. Markakis may have a hit streak, but no power. Roberts is showing no patience, and no skill as of late. It's terrible.

I need to stop now. Tonight's game set me off in so many ways. I'm just so happy (and irked at the same time, because there isn't a win for him) that Big Berg threw such an impressive game. He was the lone shining star outside of Luke Scott (who's been carrying this team). BTW, how awful has this offense been without Luuuuuuuke?

I agree with this, more baloney than any one can digest.

I still think back to a few days ago when Zaun came up in a big spot, and we didn't hit Reimold for him. I was so flabbergasted at the time, and still am.

That's the game. Also, didn't run Pie for Wigginton.

We had this discussion earlier, and I agreed, FWIW. There's a certain someone in this thread who didn't. ;)

Basically, as it stands, we play with a 23 man roster.

We don't use Wigginton in the only situations he's a worthwhile player (against LHP)

We don't use Pie for defense or running nearly enough (even though he's our best defensive LF).

We don't use Walker for any purpose other than giving up baserunners in games we want to lose.

I don't understand Hendrickson, Wigginton, Walker, and Pie's roles on this team. Why are we paying around $8 million for 3 guys that we could get from Castillo, Pauley, and Salazar.

Give me one reason why Pie didn't run for Huff. Anyone on this board, give me the reason.

I was thinking the same thing at the time. If you want to play for 1 run, then put a guy in who has a shot at stealing a base instead of trying a hit and run with Mora. And if Pie does get to second, he has a much better shot at scoring on a single than Huff.

Or going first to third.

That doesn't make it right.

Nor does it make it wrong. There are only two choices, hero or goat, so either way you are one or the other. You can second guess either choice all day long. The fact is DT made his choice, which would have been the same choice of many, if not all, MLB managers, MILB managers, college coaches, high school coaches and even little league coaches.

There is a much better chance at getting Beltre to hit into a DP than Branyan. Here are their GIDP stats....

2009

Beltre -- 10

Branyan -- 0

Career -- both 10 year career

Beltre -- 144

Branyan -- 17

What are the chances of George popping up or K'ing Branyan?

They might be good, but I agreed with DT here.

This is another thing that many on here have been clamoring for, Johnson going more than one inning with the game on the line. This could have been all moot, if the ball went 5 feet farther. It could have been a catch by Jones or walkoff for the number 9 hitter for the M's.
