Instead of buying the extra innings package this year I just pop in a tape from any game from the last 11 years...it's pretty much the same story year after year.

Every basball season feels like the movie groundhog day to me.

It's amazing to me how bad luck, bad execution and poor decision making are always in perfect harmony with this team. How is that even possible to the extent that it happens to this team year in and year out, even with different personell on the field?

It really is amazing if you think about it.

...

So predictable.

Blow it up!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, wait.

:leaving:

my thoughts exactly

We have a good core of players. However, the veterans (Mora, Huff, Wigginton, Zaun, Eaton) need to be cleared out ASAP. We also need to look for a new manager for next year.

I like Mora and Huff, but the other 3 schmoes can go

This would be such a different team with Wieters, Salazar and Hernandez replacing the 3 you mentioned. More exciting to watch, more versatile, and arguably better.

not so different when...

...the so-called ace has an ERA over 5

...mainstays like BRob and Mora continue to give away outs on the basepaths

...the bullpen is unreliable top to bottom, with random exceptions

...the defense is among the worst in baseball

...the manager insists on giving away outs via botched small ball

...what have I forgotten?

This happens every year at the same time like clockwork.

1. The Orioles start decently

2. Someone starts a "maybe this is the year thead"

3. The starters begin to falter because of lack of talent/ Eatons-Chens-Ortizs

4. The bullpen arms start to get tired and they start losing games late from over use

5. The manager says the starters need to go deeper in games

6. The bullpen continues to struggle....

7. Someone starts an apocalypse thread saying the team will never amount to anything. (THIS THREAD)

8. The offense dips in production. Usually because Mora goes on the DL (he got that out of the way early this year)

9. Someone starts a fire Crow thread/ fire the manager thread/ "How long do you give AM thread"

10. Everyone rebounds but the O's remain inconsistent trending towards another okay but decent season...

11. August 1st: AKA The start of the Orioles offseason...or so they think. Too bad everyone else in the AL east is playing for the playoffs.

It is not even June yet and things are starting to get ugly. The Orioles are getting their butt kicked again tonight and will probably get their butt kicked tomorrow. I sure hope Matt Wieters and company can jumpstart this team and get the Orioles on the winning track.

Andrew' date='[/quote']

And you didn't expect this???? With the sulg pitching staff AM placed on the field to start the season there is no other possible result.

    • This reminded me of, in the 90’s, anecdotally, every year, Mussina would have at least one outing where he’d just get absolutely SHELLED.
    • If he throws that many hittable pitches in the heart of the plate against the Yankees (or any Major League team for that matter) he is likely to get a similar result.
    • Nick Pollack's write up mentioned the BABIP, though certainly watching that performance it was the kind of performance to make you think Voros McCracken and DIPS theory is hokum. I don't think it was random variation getting pummeled there last night.     Hopefully the Angels didn't find any cues the Yankees might also be able to benefit from.
    • Baseball’s a funny game.  We spend 1.4M on Carter Young who played at D1 powerhouse Vanderbilt and he hasn’t looked too good so far in his pro career.  A year later in the 20th round, we pick Vazquez from North Greenville University (sorry. Never heard of it), sign him for 30k and he puts up an .822 OPS at Delmarva.  This year both Vazquez and Young are at Aberdeen and it’s not too difficult to guess which one is the better prospect. In 46 PA, Vazquez has 12 walks to 7 strikeouts and a .933 OPS.  In addition, he’s stolen 7 bases in 8 tries.   @Tony-OH also has said he’s a good defensive SS. 2023 draft.  Etzel in the 10th.  Vazquez in the 20th.  Nice job, scouts.
    • They may be a way to start him out. But I hope that is not the plan long term. If you had a chance to listen to Hyde's comments they appear to be trying to build Bradish back up into a regular starter. He talked about him building toward 80 pitches in his next rehab outing. In order for this team to get where it wants to go, we will need the Bradish of last year (or a comparable pitcher to that).
    • Hopefully Means gets a rehab extension for another 30 days. If not, this seems right to me. Does Bradish go to the pen, or does he start with one of Suarez, Kremer, or Irvin pushed to the pen? I kind of like Bradish as an opener with Irvin backing him up most of his starts.
    • He threw that fastball right down the shoot on a 1-2 count. That was not a case of Trout being Trout. It was a case of horrible location. I have to believe that it was not his intention to throw it there after he watched us beat Trout several times the night before with hard stuff up in the zone (Trout's only weakness). Maybe the extra day messed up something with Rodriguez's ability to execute? Maybe he just had a bad night? But this was not the case of the Angels being good. It was Grayson who was really bad.
