Troy Percival thinking about retiring

First the saddening news: Right-hander Troy Percival, who was never able to get right this season after an injury-plagued 2008, was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of right shoulder tendinitis on Friday -- but it could be much longer.

Vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Percival was really frustrated with the shoulder and has flown back to his Riverside, Calif., home. Percival, 40 on Aug. 9, will sit down with his family, see where he's at physically and mentally, then decide whether or not to retire.

Manager Joe Maddon said he spoke to Percival after Thursday's game and said he wouldn't be surprised if the right-hander indeed took that route.

I hope for the best for Percival!
