Report: Braves interested in Luke Scott... and Felix Pie?

If we aren't getting a true can't miss guy that could contribute this year, i'd like to wait another 15 days....make sure we don't have an actual wc chance. If we real off a few wins on this road trip things could get interesting...

It's not just this year. Next year matters, too. The return has to have some present and near-term value, IMO. Raiding the Myrtle Beach Pelicans isn't going to be good enough.

BTW Cole Rohrbaugh, mentioned as a possibility, got lit up for 11 H and 10 ER in 2.2 innings tonight. Even before tonight's game, he was less effective this year, in his second tour at High A, than he was in a partial season last year.

Yeah . . . I agree. I do not think the Braves are an ideal team for us to match up with. It seems a team like the Red Sox or Angels would be better. They have MLB ready talent at positions in which we are in need. Rangers would be another one.

I'd probably agree with that, I just think that Franny might be worth a shot.

Maybe . . . Frenchy has just looked completely awful and we do not have a spot for him. His defense has eroded and he was never a good MLB level hitter. I think he could get his defense back and be marginal in left field, but we seem to have someone who fits there. Frenchy has also been completely disinterested in the fact he is awful at the moment. He won't take the bench well.

This is actually a sign of how far this organization has come in the last year.

It certainly is . . . I would be fine dealing out someone like Huff for low level guys, but someone like Scott needs to bring back a high minor leaguer or a 0-3yr guy. Otherwise, we are just assuming too much risk.

I don't see us dealing Huff and Scott. Scott's production will be hard to replace for his $$ and if all continues to go we'll AM may make the pust in 2010. I don't think you'll see Salazar or Lou M in the starting lineup next year.

I wouldn't deal Huff for a low level player(s) with hime expected to be a Type A player this offseason. Give Jordan the two picks.

I have no doubt that given the right offers that AM would definitely trade Huff AND Scott.

Huff is likely to be gone anyway and Scott, while a solid player for the money, is replaceable.

Can't guarantee that Huff won't accept arbitration though.

I'd bet he wouldn't.... this is his shot at his last multi year deal. He'll be one of the bigger bats on the market. He's a perfect fit as DH in Boston.

I would bet he would if he has a big year....If he has a year like 2005-2007, he will accept arbitration.

If his year this year ends up somewhere in between last year and the previous 3 years, I think it will be very close.

If a solid offer is there, I would take the chance and trade him.

In a different market and economy, I think it would be a no brainer but right now, its really up in the air.

Two picks are essentially worth two B level prospects . . . on average with considerable variability. It really is not worth as much as it seems you might think they are. You seem to be valuing the unknown far more than the known.

    • As in, another instance and you'd want him gone? Elias and the FO are building a foundation that will enable them to be a team I haven't witnessed in my lifetime - a consistent competitive team. I have 100% confidence in the process of the FO. Will every decision pan out? Of course not. But has the FO helped the organization more than any other FO in my lifetime? Without a doubt. My much greater concern is that Elias, Sig, et al leave because another organization realizes how valuable they are.
    • Opening Day Is a 3:05 gane start at Csmden Yards. They  are going to open the gates three hours before the game?  Have not heard this but you may be right. Fenway which usually does an 11/2 gate opening ,is doing a 2 hour gate opening for Opening Day.
    • Don't see a final roster posted yet.  If so, I missed it.
    • On balance I think it's fair to expect the improved rotation and regressed bullpen will even out, so pitching overall for the team will remain about the same. Meanwhile the hitting should definitely improve!
    • At 76.5 I'll take the over on the O's and pass on betting their place in the standings.  While I'm pretty upset with this past off season, I'm not quite ready to grab a pitchfork.  Given that Westburg and Cowser and several others could all be ready to contribute soon, Elias should have a fair amount of flexibility at the trade deadline.  Was that his strategy all along?  Beats the heck out of me, but if that's the case and we sit and watch another failure to launch (liftoff v2.0 anyone?) then most of the goodwill I have toward him evaporates overnight.  Bottom line?  The 2022 O's earned a bigger investment than they've received so far but it's not too late to fix it.
    • MLB and the newly-unionized minor leagues just struck a new CBA.  Doubles AAA salaries with even bigger raises for the lower minors.  Now minor leaguers *almost* make a liveable wage.
    • I won't lie, I'm very concerned about not having Tate in the bullpen for a month or 2. Tate was our most reliable reliever. Hyde could always count on him to get the job done. I thought Givens could fill the gap, but now Givens is injured too. Someone is going to have to seriously step up for the bullpen. I'm also convinced that Tyler Wells has a limited number of innings he can be effective. We've seen what happened last year once he got beyond a certain threshold. (He got injured.) I think that after a couple months, we might see either Voth, Baumann, Hall, or Rodriguez take some starts in that rotation spot. Who it is, depends on how Rodriguez and Hall are doing in Norfolk. If one of them is dominating, that's who will get the call.
