I think his last at bat today was a little unfair. Umpire called a ball that was way off the plate a strike. Pitcher went right back there and then he had to swing cause he knew it was gonna get called a strike. I’m not trying to white knight for him, that’s @interloper’s job, but I’m not the least bit worried about Holliday. It’ll happen for him and I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re singing a different tune about him next week. -

Great find. Comes across as an easy guy to root for. Hope we find a way to keep him around and he continues to perform. -
He earned another start for sure, but I'm not going to get overly excited about a 34-year-old with 120 ML innings pitched in a 17-year career. He was awesome today and fun to watch, though. -

This is the first time I've seen him pitch. To be honest I wasn't expecting much but he was just dialed in. He has a solid, compact, delivery and I like the way he works up in the zone. He made good pitches and his command was outstanding. Can't wait to see if he can keep this up! -
Gunnar was bad but it was mainly because he was too passive. He often would watch a strike or two and then try to hit. That isn’t what is going on here. Admittedly Holliday seems to get a lot of tough pitches but he also seems to basically miss them off -
His FIP was a 5.24 and his xFIP was 5.91. I guess it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t good. To me the largest concern was 3.80 K/9. I just don’t know how a pitcher can succeed in today’s game missing that few bats. However, I’m not pouring dirt on him, and don’t think any definitive conclusions can be drawn at this point, particularly because it is spring training for him. That being said, I have not had a lot of confidence in his ability to help this season because his recovery from TJS has seemed challenging. I hope I’m wrong.
