Not sure I uderstand this unless there is some behind the scenes stuff that I'm unaware of. The press release says his contract was assigned to Tampa on a waiver claim in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Zaun was a quality backup catcher who had a cheap option for next year. Unless we get something back of value or there is some behind the scene issue, I don't like this move at all.

PTBNL and cash? And Moeller promoted? This trade now makes absolutely no sense at all for me and is the first move by AM that I really have to say WTF about. I understood the Bradford deal. He was a relief pitcher and MacPhail thought others would step up. They didn't so the trade backfired in that respect. But, why would you trade a solid back up catcher for nothing?

I guess Andy likes Dave Johnson more than Rick Dempsey?

IMO, Zaun has more value to us as a mentor to MW than the typical PTBNL. If we end up just getting back a mediocre prospect (AKA salary dump), this move will be pretty pathetic.

Didn't Tillman give Moeller a lot of credit for developing his breaking ball? Did this move have anything do with Tillman being comfortable throwing to him? Just a thought because the move doesn't really make much sense to me...

The changeup "was terrible last year," Tillman said. "Now I'll throw it 20, 25 times a game. I am more than thrilled with that pitch, and all the credit goes to [Norfolk catcher] Chad Moeller and Mike Griffin."

Hmm I say we trade him and Mora for Longoria, Upton, Pena, Bartlett, and Price...I say we go for Sheilds too if we throw in some cash considerations.

Do you really expect it to be a token prospect? It'll probably be another Bradford situation. We'll wait around months and months trying to figure out who the prospect is, only to find out that really all we wanted and got was a little bit of cash.

Read the post I was quoting. I never said it would be a token prospect. I was explaining to the person I quoted what my opinion of a salary dump is. If you look back, I originally said it would probably be a list of players or someone that Tampa can't trade now.
