Emergency catcher question

Watching Jayson Werth in the NLCS. He is obviously the Dodgers worst case emergency C. Surhoff was ours for a while. Do these guys catch pitchers? To stay sharp? Regularly? Work on signs, talk to some pitchers what they like to throw?

Or on the odd odd chance they'd get in the game at C do they go in cold?

I don't know the answer to your question, but after watching the playoff games in Denver, New York, and Philadelphia...they would definitely go in very cold...
