Thanks for that. Interesting symmetry, though. I think this is a close call. I lean towards the "too much alike to make the move" but I see why people disagree.
Uggla's defense has bounced around according to UZR as well. He's been at about 5to 6 a couple years and at like -9 to -10 a couple years. So, he might not even be that poor of a defensive 2B, whereas Wigginton has pretty consistently been very poor at both 3B and 1B. Of course that might not mean much with the switch from 2B to 3B, it might be relevant or it might mean nothing.

You are not allowed to do it, period. Scott asked if we can. Don't answer a question that you do not know the answer to.

Crawdad at least shows he knows a lot more than you do. If you were a Plus member, you would realize that by all of his contributions in the Prospect Tracker and Draft forums.

All of the answers he provided are true.

Yeah - I agree. He just screams "steep decline" to me. Contact rate issues. Bad body. Bad defense last year. SLG inflated by HRs.

Kind of like wiggy, just a year or two behind on the curve.

I'm just not an Uggla fan. I wouldn't trade Erbe or DH for him. JJ and Johnson perhaps.

JJ vs DH and Erbe . . . there is a whole lot more value on the DH/Erbe side.
And a whole lot more volatility. I guess it comes down to how you view each guy. I'm actually pretty high on all 3 although I don't think Johnson is going to be a closer. I do think he can be a 70 inning reliever with some impressive numbers.

I think we're at a point where immediate impact is valuable over just total value. Johnson being worth x-amount of wins right now is more valuable to us than Erbe or Hernandez being worth x-amount of wins 3 years from now. Of course, if the wins from Erbe/Hernandez greatly outpace Johnson's value, then that can overcome the benefit of the immediate impact of Johnson.

Great discussion technique. Instead of responding with your reason as to why you don't agree, you question people's sanity.

There are many arguments that can be made for JJ/SJ for Uggla. What is your argument against?

There are so many other options out there before i would even look at this deal. Plus the names you all throw around I just can't believe.

I guess I just question the difference in value between Jim Johnson and David Hernandez. I just do not see much difference. Johnson, I would associate with, is a better pitcher . . . but not by a great degree.

To me it is basically one backend reliever for a probably two backend relievers. Erbe's potential as a potential real closer would trump the value easily for me.

What is wrong specifically with trading JJ/SJ for Uggla?

Lets try this for one. Your giving up two pretty good pitchers for a player in decline and were only looking for a stop gap 3B tell Bell is ready. You don't even know if he can play 3B. You've got a very young pitching staff so its important to put a good defensive 3b out there. And if you think your going to move him to DH well I just think at this time there are better options out there with out giving up good young pitching.

I think you are overvaluing Johnson's/JJ's importance. They are nice little players, but neither is a particularly important piece to BAL's future success. JJ is easily replaceable and it's still debatable Johnson will have more than middle-relief value when all is said in done. Nothing wrong with potentially adding Uggla as a place holder.
