LOL at this:

"Jed has been asking for a ton," one source said.

Well, um, duh. Of course he is. Is this supposed to be a surprise?

I don't think Cafardo's Buchholz + Kelly/Westmoreland rumor was right (wouldn't be the first time). That didn't sound like enough at the time and it doesn't fit with the description "a ton." I'm betting he's asking for all three.

He never said that was all they were asking for though.

Just named those 2 players.

It makes that Boston is going after AGon but will they pay the price to obtain him?

Actually, I'm wondering if the following are relevant (all relative to the O's):

1. Can Boston offer a better package of players?

2. Does Boston have the motivation to make the trade?

3. Can Boston sign AGon to an extension?

4. Would Boston make the trade without an AGon extension?

This isn't a shock.

The Orioles have to do something big to counter if this does go down because they have no shot for sometime on the course they are on now though.

MacPhail can't bury his head in the sand regarding the improvements of these two teams.

If the Sox get AGon, we are going to have two 100 game winners in this division and then 95 wins won't be enough to win the WC.

C'mon, the fix is in. :D The entire quote
A deal is not close, and might not happen at all, sources said. Jed Hoyer, the Padres’ new general manager -- and Red Sox’s former assistant GM -- wants a high price for Gonzalez, whose contract is one of the biggest bargains in baseball.

Rumor in Beantown is letting Jed load up the truck and move to SD was quid pro quo that he'd grease the skids for this trade.

If the Red Sox don't make this trade, does that mean we can stop hearing people whine about how the Orioles need to make it?

Nope. It will just continue until he's a FA.

Then, we'll hear how it is imperative that we sign him, no matter what it takes.

There's no way out...
