How does Reimold seem like a great #3? You do realize he hasn't even had a full season yet of hitting major league pitching and you want to categorize him as a "great #3"? :scratchchinhmm: In case you don't know it the number 3 spot on a team is reserved for its best over all hitter which is almost always a proven guy who has shown the abiity to lead his team in hitting in the past. Nobody starts out as a number three hitter without having played a full season. That would defy logic and common sense. You might experiment with Reimold there but that is all it would be. You cannot make your statement that Reimold seems like a great number # 3 hitter based on the evidence so far. There just isn't enough of it.

He did lead his team as a rookie. That's your evidence Oldfan.

You want your number three to have a good eye and know how to take a walk AND have some power-- which he does. I don't want someone who strikes out too much in the third slot unless he has HUGE power or a HUGE OBP. Statistically, Nick and Reimold are our most well-rounded hitters, thus the best candidates for the third slot.

It also gives this team some proven talent in having a former league MVP, multiple AS and potential HOF player added to the cast. This IMO is something this team sorely lacked.
If that had any merit, we might as well have brought back Frank.:rolleyestf:

I think we can expect a .350 on base, 15 homers and 35+ doubles from Miggy.

Welcome back Miggy!!

Tejada led the NL in doubles last year with 46, one more than Pujols. (Should make us even more appreciative of Roberts, who led the AL in doubles last year with 56!) Tejada was also second in the NL in hits with 199, and 8th in AVE with .313 in 635 AB and 158 games. 14 HR, .340 OBP.

It would be so wonderful if he was brought on to play SS, forcing Izzy to the bench.

THis does mean no Andino, which is nice.

Definitely on the fence for this move...I like the signing in and of itself but the way Pie will be used now makes me like the move a lot less.

I am hoping for average defense and a 350ish OBP from MIggy.

Who backs up 2nd base?

Has Reimold ever hit second? Maybe just for a while, maybe longer if he takes to it. Placing a power hitter with patience in the 2 spot isn't exactly unheard of (in fact, with Markakis backing him up, it sort of reminds me of what the Cubs did with Sandburg/Grace in the early 90's) From what I've seen, Reimold has enough patience to take the pitches BRob needs to steal. He has enoung speed to be a table setter, and he has enough power to really make the thought interesting. With Markakis Jones, Scott and Weiters (in that order to start, flipping Weiters later on), that's a 2-6 with 20+ HR potential backed by Miggy and Atkins (outside chance at 20Hr from one of them).

Good post, I admit I hadn't looked at his stat line from last year. I do remember him having a good amount of doubles during the season last year so I had a feeling that 35 would be conservative.

I did like photographing him, so I'm happy he's back for that reason, too :)

Who backs up 2nd base?

Assuming he gets in decent physical shape, Wigginton (hold your groans!) has played 2nd a lot in his career, including 43 times in 2006 and 39 times in 2007. Assuming Roberts is healthy, Wigginton can be an occasional backup. If Roberts is injured, then you do a roster change and bring up Andino or someone. Wigginton isn't someone you want defensively at 2nd a lot, but his bat is so much better than Andino's that you can get away with this as long as Roberts stays healthy. Roberts played 159 games last year, and 155 and 156 the two years before that, so you don't want to waste a roster spot for someone whose main purpose is to back him up.

Uh, he didn't play a full season closer to half a season didn't he? I think he needs to prove himself over a full season first before annointing him the spot in the lineup where the best overall hitter usually hits.

Following up a great first post with a great second! Is it good enough of a post to be slotted at third?;):P
