4/7 O's vs Rays

There it is, that's what we've been waiting for. Now the season has started. We were all waiting, I mean the game's had started, but RShack was nowhere to be found in the game thread telling everyone how stupid their emotional reactions are. Now we can officially say the season is underway. Unbelievable.

Not everyone. Just the folks who were giving up after 17 innings. That's not everyone, it's not even most people. It's just a few. Nice of you to take it upon yourself to speak for everybody though...

As for the rest of your snark, I can't see the game due to the stupid Tampa blackout here, so I was following the game via GameDay and the game thread. Since I could not see the game, there was no point in me responding to it. I responded only to what I could see.

Why can't you wrap your head around the fact that it's incredibly annoying to be told how irrational we are after a tough loss and an unfortunate start of the season? I don't get it.

I do see your side of it, but how you fail to comprehend the nature of human emotion is beside me.

My biggest concern so far is definitely Brian Roberts. I doubt hes truly 100% yet, but that isn't my biggest concern. Hopefully he isn't going to mindf&$^ himself trying to press too hard to preform when he is essentially still in spring training... I hope he can keep a short memory.

Who says I don't comprehend it? And why can't you wrap your head around the fact that people who whine and give up after 17 innings have exactly zero more claim to expressing their views as I have to expressing mine? The idea that whiners who give up easy have some special status, and everybody else should just shut up, is absurd.

No, it's absurd that you claim you do comprehend this when clearly you don't. You attack us, we attack the O's when they wet the bed to start what could be their 13th straight losing season... all of this while no one is giving up, just boiling over from nearly a decade and a half of absolute disgust and pain. Big difference.

It's one thing for you to present your actual reasons for why you don't think it's time to panic, it's another for you to insinuate we're morons for being pissed. I have argued that Atkins hasn't been too bad so far, I've argued that the two starts have been great considering it's the first time through our rotation on the road against a good team. You've simply argued that it's just .0011 whatever % of the season and we're irrational. How can't you see this difference?

I gotta agree. I'm as pissed and bummed as everyone else, and trust me... it's very discouraging to lose these one run games.

It's really easy to throw out a general "same ****, different year" statement... but come on. We've had quite a few positives to pull from both games.

This offense will be TOTALLY different once Brian gets going... AT ALL.

Hey, try looking in the mirror, Paco. All I did was point out how many innings are in a season, plus a couple Actual Facts about two worst-to-first ballclubs. You're the one who decided to make it personal, not me. Now, if you don't like the facts, or that I pointed them out, well, that's your problem. And if you want some special credit for losing perspective after 17 innings, I'm sure somebody will give you some, but it won't be me...

There you go, same old dog and pony show. Like I said, the season has started, and you're in mid-season form. We can all relax now that the season is officially under way. I just wish we were all as smart as you so we wouldn't have to deal with emotion. Enjoy another season of "rising above" all of this nonsense.

Oh, and thanks for calling me Paco tough guy. Hope you feel better about yourself after another successful evening of Hangout bashing.

I'm not bashing the Hangout. Not everybody here gives up after 17 innings. Most people here don't, just a few.

But, once again, nice of you to pretend that you're speaking for everybody...

ps: Had I known you were in the game thread, I would have asked you to do PBP. You're better at it than anybody...

Would anyone be upset if DT rested BROB tomorrow night? He is clearly struggling at the plate and his swinging at the first pitch with the tying runner on third and two outs tonight was frustrating to watch. Make the pitcher pitch. He's a veteran and should know better. Take a couple pitches. Maybe a passed ball or wild pitch gets the run home.

I was going to do a separate post on my pal Evan Longoria with the Rays but decided to add it to this post. A number of you may recall my post on him last year when I accused him of using a corked bat or one of those Texas bats that make balls fly over the wall with ease in most parks. The comments that came in afterwards were quite strong against my opinion and most in favor of the greatness of the incredible Evan who crushes the ball like Mark McGuire and Juan Gonzalez did in the past. We know why these guys hit the ball a long ways. Why is Evan hitting these monster shots?

FYI; 2008 first season 27 HR'S, 85 RBI'S 122 games

Post Season 2008 6 HR'S, 13 RBI'S in 16 games Pretty Good!

2009 33 HR'S, 113 RBI'S, 44 Doubles in 157 games

2010 2 HR'S and 4 RBI'S in 2 games on pace for 162 HR'S and 324 RBI'S

Nice start Evan,

Well I can definitely see the sides of both Rick's and RShack's argument.

It's way way way too early to fly off the handle and while TheRick is certainly not giving up on the season, I can see why he'd be frustrated to start 0-2 in the fashion we did, especially after a long winter and the anticipation of a new season.

Let's get 'em today and we can all be happy!

Nice start Evan,

I would. He's a veteran, and I would hope that he can get going on his own. Also, I remind people, that if this were two random games in August where he went hitless in back to back nights, hardly anyone would notice. It's just magnified because it's the first two games of the season.

    • Baseball’s a funny game.  We spend 1.4M on Carter Young who played at D1 powerhouse Vanderbilt and he hasn’t looked too good so far in his pro career.  A year later in the 20th round, we pick Vazquez from North Greenville University (sorry. Never heard of it), sign him for 30k and he puts up an .822 OPS at Delmarva.  This year both Vazquez and Young are at Aberdeen and it’s not too difficult to guess which one is the better prospect. In 46 PA, Vazquez has 12 walks to 7 strikeouts and a .933 OPS.  In addition, he’s stolen 7 bases in 8 tries.   @Tony-OH also has said he’s a good defensive SS. 2023 draft.  Etzel in the 10th.  Vazquez in the 20th.  Nice job, scouts.
    • They may be a way to start him out. But I hope that is not the plan long term. If you had a chance to listen to Hyde's comments they appear to be trying to build Bradish back up into a regular starter. He talked about him building toward 80 pitches in his next rehab outing. In order for this team to get where it wants to go, we will need the Bradish of last year (or a comparable pitcher to that).
    • Hopefully Means gets a rehab extension for another 30 days. If not, this seems right to me. Does Bradish go to the pen, or does he start with one of Suarez, Kremer, or Irvin pushed to the pen? I kind of like Bradish as an opener with Irvin backing him up most of his starts.
    • He threw that fastball right down the shoot on a 1-2 count. That was not a case of Trout being Trout. It was a case of horrible location. I have to believe that it was not his intention to throw it there after he watched us beat Trout several times the night before with hard stuff up in the zone (Trout's only weakness). Maybe the extra day messed up something with Rodriguez's ability to execute? Maybe he just had a bad night? But this was not the case of the Angels being good. It was Grayson who was really bad.
    • But, but they lost. They absorbed a loss.
    • That’s probably true and Elias said he also didn’t want to call him up if he wasn’t ready to be an everyday player.   So ………. something to keep an eye on.
    • Yea he has looked bad but while it’s fair to point that out, it’s also fair to point that some of this could be attributed to rust, an injury, not having a real ST, not playing in the field as much (I assume since he’s not catching?), etc…I think his timing is likely off and he’s working himself back into things. He has played 15 games. He has a multi hit game in 1/3 of his game so far. You point out all the Ks…what’s funny is all the Ks came in 5 games and he hasn’t struck out the last 4. To me the only thing that bothers me as of right now is the zero walks but it’s not something that would concern me long term.
