Dibble on XM: Jones wants to play SS

I'm not sure where he's getting this, but Rob Dibble said on MLB Network Radio that Adam Jones has said he wants to play SS for the Orioles. And he repeated it multiple times.

This could be a nice solution to our problems if Jones was willing to work at it in Winter Ball, or even for the rest of this season when Pie comes back.

I know people have said this idea was ridiculous but the only reason Jones was moved to CF in Seattle was because he was blocked by Betancourt.

I'd have to know where he got it to really say, but I'd be surprised if Jones can make the move. Guys at shortstop usually have to move off, guys off shortstop don't often move in. It'd be nice though, sure.

Yeah, but unless he starts hitting more consistently, he won't be any better than Izturis. I say we get Jones on track in the offense department before we consider throwing another wrench into the mix.

I don't know how you go about analyzing this concept and making the transition but this is an outside the box concept that should be explored. I've heard the line that Jones was only moved from SS to get to the bigs quicker so I have no idea how his defense profiles. Maybe someone can dig up some old scouting reports on his SS defense.

I would be all for something like this. I think we need to get creative and maximize the talent we have. If Reimold and Pie prove to be long-term options in the OF, then we might as well fortify an IF position with one of our four OFs.

I'm all about putting the best 9 players on the field/in the lineup.

Rob Dibble has no idea what he's talking about.

Yeah. I'm not Dibble-hater, but I think he says whatever pops into his head. That, and I pretty much stopped listening when he said in the O's-Nats broadcast that his favorite restaurant in NYC was Mickey Mantle's.

Palmer was like "Really?"

His Total Zone stats are actually pretty darn encouraging.

In 2004 he was +3 in Runs/150 in 202 chances and in 2005 he was +16 in 190 chances.

I was listening to Norm Charlton, and he said Adam wants to try to cut down on his strikeouts by averaging less than 3 pitches at bat.

Randy Myers chimed in with the note that last season, Adam earned the title 'All Star'.
