From what I saw, Turner was every bit as much of a butcher at second as Wigginton. Jimmy Key could probably field the position as well as Turner... right now.

To this day I can't understand why Lugo was kept, or even brought in, when Turner could have done the same job and probably a bit better.

While Lugo is not a good shortstop, he can handle the position occasionally without completely embarassing himself. It's fairly clear the O's believed Turner's defense at short was on a Wigginton level - just barely acceptable for an inning or two after Izturis has been carried off by vultures.

It's not reasonable to expect the O's to not have an acceptable backup shortstop.
