He's only played 9 innings at 1B (in 2006 in Cincinnati).

I would DH Encarnacion while he learns how to play 1B. He never developed defensively at third and has been terrible there. He has probably the most erratic arm from third in the league.

He's definitely worth a flier due to his bat, no question.

I will just point out that the knock on him, in addition to defense, is that he doesn't hustle. He also has a crappy OBP pretty consistently.

I would pick him up, but only because once again I'd claim pretty much anyone in an effort to get rid of Atkins.
