Well....we're going nowhere WITH Tejada and if we were able to get a couple of quality arms, a good defensive shortstop, and an outfielder with power potential, I might consider it.

I stilll think that if the Angels are players for Tejada, they'd have the best package to offer.

In the long run, I tend to agree with the article. Pete will never let our FO trade Tejada.

Yeah, you have to trade this guy. We're destined for many more 4th place finishes in the future with him, might as well try to get better and finish in 4th place without him.

Exactly....and like you stated in the other thread, our pitchers have proven very little yet at the ML level. If these two pitchers are the real deal, then we need to get them and continue to build a stockpile of arms.

Interesting. I don't know who Phil Rogers is but I wouldn't trade Tejada for Pie and Hill either so I guess that makes me unrealistic too.

Not sure that Houston has enough in what he's listed. I also don't have any problem with the FO wanting to be blown away for Tejada. In fact they better be if they let him go.

I wonder how much more likely it is that they'll go this direction since after last night there's little chance we're trading Rodrigo for anything significant.

Just another writer who considers the O's operation a laughingstock.

Without even knowing anything about Nieve, that sounds like a pretty good package but does anyone really believe the O's can pull the trigger on any Tejada deal? I'll believe it when I see it.

Like they're not wrong about that?

It does seem like a good deal...4 players for one? Gotta think at least one of those prospects will work out...I like Everett...

I didn't read the article. But the O's would be better off keeping Tejada if all they get abck are two pitchers and Nieve is one of them. I have seen Nieve. He may turn out to be a good pitcher. But right now even though he is in Houston he is still nothing more than a minor league pitcher. The O's would be shooting themselves in the foot to do the Houston deal. Besides the Astros have Everett. Good defense but lacking offense side of the game.

Well, if you had read the article, you would know that the deal is for a package centered around Everett. ;)

After looking up stats, Nieve is a JJ Johnson...Very imilar k rates, HR rates and walk rates. Can't seem to find stats on him this year...Is he hurt?

Pence is their Reimold but without the walks.

Hirsh is their best prospect...He has been dominant this year and was decent in the past...He is also already 24.

Everett is a joke...He has a 621 OPS this year and had a 650 OPS last year and he plays in hitters parks. The best OPS he has ever had is 702.

I have no desire to see Everett everyday.....We should try and get Aybar from Anaheim or something like that.

Personally, i do not think this package is enough...The Stros need another player to go with Hirsh and Pence.

I don't believe the O's will have enough time to trade Tejada since there is only a week in which to do it. If its gonna happen, it will be in the off-season.

Look in the MLB stats. Nieve has been pitching for the Astros all year. LOL I never heard of the guy. I'm getting old. The only reason I can see taking Everett back is because the Astros want to include him. I bet the Orioles would rather just put Fahey at SS than to have Everett included. Everett's inclusion make me think this is Houston's offer, moreso than what the O's asked for, but Pence and Hirsch look like pretty good prospects.

I didn't even see Nieve listed on the Stros roster on ESPN...I figured that is where he was though.

Is Hirsh any better than Penn? Better than Loewen? Olson? I am not sure...Maybe, maybe not...He has looked very good this year but i remember being pretty underwhelmed about him this past offseason.

Pence looks real good but the lack of walks taper my enthusiasm somewhat. Would like to know about his defense.

Instead of Everett, i would rather get Lane, put Fahey at SS for right now and either get a real replacement before July 31 or by next OD.

    • Good point on the age.  I think it would have to be someone like Nate George from this year's draft just blowing up next year. The story would be how everyone missed on him because he played in a cold weather state.
    • First, Schmidt is having a better year than Cole. Second, the O's teed off Ragans and Lugo last time they faced them.
    • Elias needs to use better judgement when he dumpster dives, prepare better for the high percentage chance that his dumpster diving pickups will fail, and increase usage of other means to get pieces. Bullpen usage is another problem, but it’s hard to effectively juggle flaming torches. A wrong move burns badly
    • I can see the case for Mountcastle based on defense alone, but what has Kjerstad done to warrant that kind of treatment? Is it the .505 OPS he’s put up since coming back? The overall .438 ML OPS since getting hit in the head? I’m as bummed as anyone that his season got derailed, but if you’re talking about where they are right now — he’s not your huckleberry. As for O’Hearn, he’s 8 for his last 23 (.348), with 3 doubles. That feels a little like the “getting himself together” that you referenced. He had an awful month-long slump, but he also has an extended track record (over 1.5 seasons) of excelling in the role he’s now back in, as the platoon LH 1B/DH guy. He had a 125 wRC+ in those 750 PAs as an Oriole until 8/20, which is roughly when Mountcastle went out.  I’d be good with Kjerstad DHing against LH starters, because there’s good reason to think he hits them better than O’Hearn. And if they want to play both O’Hearn and Kjerstad against some RHPs, in order to set up the potential of Mountcastle coming in to PH against a lefty reliever, I’m down for that too. But the primary alignment is going to (and should) be the Mountcastle/O’Hearn duo we’ve gotten accustomed to seeing.
    • The Achilles heel for this team is going to be the unit that doesn't step up in the postseason. I can easily see scenarios where: the bullpen is hot and provides good performances but the offense sputters and isn't clutch the offense comes up big but the bullpen blows games late starting pitching tosses some clunkers (not really likely with Burnes and Eflin) and they can't recover the defense sucks and gives opponents extra outs to work with, blowing games open when the bullpen or SP would have been able to escape and continue We've seen all of these units falter at one point or another during this season.  We've also seen all of these units perform very well at different times throughout the season.  So, we'll see what turns out to be the Achilles heel for the Orioles in the playoffs starting next week.
    • I agree I missed the mark on a correct forum, and ask a moderator to please relocate to Rants as that game annoyed me yesterday. I appreciate the strong moderators here and know I'm not one of them.     Sorry for making it worse at a tough moment.    I won't bump it again, even ironically if we kick their butts in the playoffs.
