Strasburg is Money!

63 of 78 pitches thrown today have been strikes. Wow.

I'll give credit to Nats management for picking absolutely the perfect time to bring him up. Has a highly touted rookie pitcher made his first four starts against four weaker teams (relative to their league) than this year's Pirates, Indians, White Sox, and Royals?* The only thing missing is a start against that offensive juggernaut known as the Orioles.

*By the way, that's a rhetorical question.

Could you imagine? We would have scored -4 runs.

MLB network right now and about ready to set another record... strikeouts after 4 starts.

Because records like most strikeouts after four starts mean anything. Is he going to "set the record" for most strikeouts after 13 starts too? Who has the record for most strikeouts after 23 starts anyway?

Very good pitcher but he gave up nine hits today and is in line for the loss.

I think he is a very good young pitcher but stats like most strike outs in first four starts are silly. Most strikeouts in debut is a worthwhile record, to keep a running tally like folks are is not.

If he stays healthy he could certainly play at a HOF level.

91MPH circle change:eek: Thats just sick!

Yeah, it's the arsenal that got my attention, not the results. The 100mph FB with 6-8 inches of movement, the 81mph curveball that just drops off the table, almost like our beloved former closer G.O., and then the 91mph circle change in between the two? It's just not even fair.

His change up is faster than most guys' fastball.

I have to say I kind of agree with Can of Corn. The hype is a bit much, although at least he's living up to it so far. But this new record of Ks in the first 4 starts of a career is a little silly. I mean who really cares? What kind of arbitrary number is that? And who knew there was a previous record holder?

The only reason we now know there is a record is become someone was looking for yet another reason to cream their pants over Strasburg. We get it, the kid is good. Just let him pitch.

I'm telling ya, this is just more proof that the guy is just plain lucky... he only pitches on days when the other team strikes out a lot. Let's wait and see how he does when he faces a team that's not having a strike-out kind of day...

;-)

Me thinks if he was an Oriole there would be plenty of guys on this board keeping track of just this sort of stat. Besides when you strike out more guys in your first 4 starts than Herb Score did back in 1955 then thats saying something.

    • This is starting to happen.  Love to see it. I want to go back to something I have been saying for a while…the Os have a lot of solid vet bats but none of them should be viewed as everyday guys.  I happen to believe that if healthy, Mounty is going to have a career year but I think we need to look at these guys as 300-550 at bats guys…not 500+ for all of them(talking the vets here). By doing that, the young guys get enough playing time to justify being here.    And we also can make a trade or 2 as the season goes on, especially to get Mayo here. There is nothing wrong with this approach. It allows you to have your depth, keep everyone fresh and develop your young talent all at the same time.
    • Suarez definitely has a plan up there. Changes if the ball is moving in or out. Changes speeds and eye level. He’s also a good weapon to ride right now because the league is essentially getting a first look at him.
    • My goodness, what a lineup. I hope everyone is taking a second to smell the roses. This is rare even with Holliday's struggles, and Mayo/Basallo aren't even hear yet.
    • He is 5 years younger than the competition. Personally I feel like there's nothing to see here. He was on a heater when he was added to Bowie late last season. He's coming off an interrupted ST and stress fracture injury. He's 19. It's going to be ok lol.
    • An 8 lefty lineup, and with all that talent. I don’t think we got to 8 lefties even with Hicks. Maybe we did with Lester at 3B?  Somewhere Bud Norris is happy he’s retired with all the LHH.  Just like with the pitching staff and their health, things will work themselves out or some players will have to go to AAA. I think Holliday gets till the Yankees series. Or maybe we just bench him if he’s not hitting for those games. Those are big games.
    • I will say that it is a great luxury to have a team this good, where we can keep running him out there while he’s giving us nothing, and still score plenty of runs. If we can get him going, at some point in this season, we may have the best offense in baseball. Yes, better than even the Braves and Rangers (and I guess Brewers who have mashed so far this year).
    • After a slow start through his first two series, Sosa had a nice series against Down East Wood Ducks. He's still swinging and missing a little too much, but the 5 walks and 5 doubles were good to see.  So far he's had the best start out of the International top prospects outhitting both Tavera and Arias (who is now on IL).
