Sports Guy
Out of all the names that have been tossed out in this thread, can we really say that any of them are "big time" players anymore?
davearm
Oops...sorry! Didn't realize that.Still...do you feel that the Zambrano, Soriano, and to a lesser extent, Fukudome contracts are a bit of an albatross? The Cubs have a number of guys making over $10M/yr (7 I believe: Z, Soriano, Lee, Dempster, Lilly, Fukudome, Ramirez), and several of them are underperforming. Now are they being hamstrung by these contracts? Who knows. Two expire this year (plus Ramirez could opt out) so that helps.

Do you think CHC takes a shot at unloading another one or two of those contracts so that they can retool versus rebuild? I haven't been keeping tabs on their farm system, do they have much coming through? I know Vitters was struggling a bit, but that's about the extent I was keeping track. Going Underground
I doubt we get a big name. I guess Derek Lee is a name with declining skills.

Not only in this thread and looking at big contracts that the O's could pickup, I haven't found anything that would work for the O's so far. OK_Os_Fan
Here is an interesting tidbit on MLB trade rumors this morning, it kind of speaks to what AM said the Os are willing to do, No ? If this is his idea of taking on salary, then someone who is not on the outs could be had. Sounds plausible, IF they are actually willing to take on the salary. Some teams believe the Red Sox will be aggressive on the waiver wire next month, placing strategic claims at a time when few teams are willing to take on salary.
