Duke Vs Md

has anyone else noticed that they seem to come out a lot flatter at home? I believe their home record last year was 4-4 in the conference. Not acceptable.

Should be interesting to see how they show Sunday vs. GT. You have both teams coming off very intense, emotional upset wins.

Objectively, I believe this favors UMD. I tend to think Tech will come in a bit lax and maybe just a bit complacent and will be ripe for the taking. Plus, they've been really inconsistent all year - this is the same team that lost just this past weekend to VT, at home, no less.

While the Terps have also been up and down, this Duke game is the kind of win that usually sets them off on a 4, 5-game win streak. They seem to ratchet it up higher and become even more focused, instead of coming out flat like most teams do after a great win like that.

Plus it seems that UMD, in recent years, has always taken a while to get going, but hits its stride around late mid-season or so. I don't see this year as being any exception.

So with that, I see a fairly (and somewhat surprisingly) easy W on SUN. Terps by around 10 or so.

Geesh, "not acceptibable". This is a tough crowd. They did win the ACC Tournament. Give them a break. They're college kids - They're going to have some ups and downs. Even the NCAA Championship Terps team had some bumps along the road. And this team is not close to that team as far as talent and maturity. I think there are a lot of unrealistic expectations from the posters here. They still don't have a legit starting center or reliable low post scoring threat, and they still are the ACC's worst 3 point shooting team. So basically, they have big problems inside and outside. Other than that, they're fine. :) Guys, smell the coffee and be a little realistic. Otherwise, it's hard to enjoy the ride.

Like CCBird said, you have to do better than 4-4 at home. The only reason it upsets me is that at home, they come out flat just about every time. I've given this team plenty of breaks and have supported them plenty of times when everyone else was done on them. If I got the sense that they were really trying, I wouldn't have made the post. But the bottom line is that many of the struggles they've had are not from lack of talent but lack of effort and heart.

I didn't think the officiating was that bad. There were missed calls both ways. I thought NCM definitely got a piece of Redick on the fast break where he hurt his ankle, and Bowers got away with an NBA walk in the first half.

The officiating was horrible. There were M & M calls. Missed & Makeup, and the makeups didnt come until refs had the door open ready to run.

Just to clarify, I meant that they weren't that bad for one side or the other. They stunk both ways.

And to clarify on my part glen, I really didnt even start seeing makeup calls until after that ridiculous non-call on Gist which was an embarassment to to the brotherhood of referees on national TV. Not until after that did I start seeing blatant makeup calls, which could have swayed the game either way by then. And truly that missed call was a 9th life for a sorry Duke shooting nite.

    • Not just WS contenders, but most Playoff contenders will be looking for bullpen upgrades as the deadline nears....if we're being honest with ourselves, if 70% of the teams have a shot at the playoffs, and the other 30% only have a handful (combined) of quality arms they might consider dealing, we should expect to have to pay a Kings Ransom to outbid those that are competing with us for the talent.  And, therein lies the problem.....we won't get a fair and reasonable deal by Hangout standards, it will have to be an overpay, or we settle for another Flaherty type.  That's just the reality folks. My point  being, be prepared to be disappointed that we had to give up too much, or we didn't get who we really wanted.
    • He's obviously cooling off some, I don't think anyone believed he would be 1.000+ OPS guy with a .350 BA. Strikeouts are 30% but he did take 3 walks yesterday if memory serves. I've slept since that game.

    • This probably didn't need its own thread but I didn't really know what existing thread to post it in. I am the only person who has recognized Roch's strange promotion/fascination/affection for Brian McKenna. He mentions him regularly in his blog as a potential call up. Rings the bell about his plus defense and speed and that he'd be a RHH off the bench. He had several blog posts last year about him missing the clinching games, and so on and so forth. It just seems a little weird that a guy who hung on as the 26th man on bad teams and is dropped from the 40 man and clears waivers when the team gets good, keeps coming up in blog posts and would be sought out for opinions and quotes so often. Just seems a little odd to me.    Roch's 4/25 Blog Post   In McKenna’s favor were his speed, defense at every outfield spot and energy in the dugout. A team-first guy and positive clubhouse influence. And he had a strong, vocal supporter in manager Brandon Hyde. But McKenna went 5-for-37 in camp, the numbers mattering more for him than others, and running dry on options didn’t allow him to immediately stay.
