What to do with Matusz???

For several reasons that you just don't want to comprehend or understand. Don't ask questions that you don't want the answers to.

I would love to ever see a valid "answer" from you but all I ever see ad nauseum are endless "excuses."

Showalter isn't going to coddle Matusz, if he continues to stink up the field he will be sent down so fast his head will spin or banished to the pen. Just wait and see!

Haha, alright...let's revisit this in a few months. Or next year.

Who do you propose we replace Matusz with?

It really doesn't matter who. Just replace him. They could call Tillman back and send him down. They had no problem sending Tillman or Bergeson a message, lets start giving equal treatment to equal crappy performance.

You don't....

Okay Sports Guy, If after 20 starts in 2011 Matusz is 0-20 with a 36.00 ERA and has never made it to the third inning do you remove him from the rotation???

Jeez there has to be some minimum standard that a ML pitcher meets to keep his job.

Matusz has been below any reasonable standard for 4 consecutive starts, we'll see how much more rope he gets.

Not in the world of SG because in the case of Matusz, it would mean he would have to admit he was wrong about something.:laughlol:

I made an entire thread of valid answers when it comes to matusz...You just don't understand it. You see, when someone provides you with an answer that you don't understand, that doesn't make it invalid..It just makes you someone who has no idea what they are talking about.

So, why on earth should anyone go through the positives of Matusz and why he is so much different from your boyfriends, Tillman and Arrieta? You aren't going to believe, understand it or think it is valid...So, why bother?

Not if we're removed our DH, let Matusz hit, and he has 876 HR...all while being the most beloved beer vendor at OPACY. If you can make up ridiculous things...so can I, right? I mean, fair is fair.

Do you know what our record is? Can you sit there and tell me what positive thing will come from sending down Matusz? And don't tell me so that he can learn because you have already said he is just going to be a situational lefty, so obviously you don't think he can improve.

So, why not just let him pitch through the season and then release him?

What if Matusz throws 5 straight shutouts in his next 5 starts...Will you think he is a good pitcher?

Because, just forget about all that stuff you wrote, the proof is ON THE FIELD! Ergo, has it ever crossed your mind that what you espouse is WRONG???????????

Not Tillman

Starting pitcher Chris Tillman (8-6) was charged with five runs (four earned) and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings as the Tides lost, 7-1, to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Tillman struck out three batters and issued two walks, throwing 53 of 92 pitches for strikes

Um, maybe it's because they aren't as good as Matusz, and maybe because they have in fact been worse than Matusz this season, consistently?

How about Britton then?

Can't believe there isn't any discussion of Matusz after yet another dreadful start. I don't see how they can keep him in the rotation. I believe he needs to spend the rest of the year at AAA with Tillman. I was shouted down in May for posting that I though he would be nothing more than a situational lefty out of the bullpen, but do any of you guys still believe he should remain in the ML rotation???

There's a pharmacy with a prescription waiting for you somewhere.

No one is saying Matusz has looked wonderful or anything as of late. He has struggled..although last night was a joke since he got taken out too early and you don't know what would have happened.

No one is happy he is getting taken out early or struggling with his command.

But the drum you have been beating against Matusz over the last few weeks is his decreased velocity...Well, his velocity appeared to be back to normal last night, so that is a positive. As he said, he felt great but he screwed up in that one inning and wasn't given a chance to work out of it.

    • I thought this was a cool story about Byron Buxton, but Rubenstein also shows how to treat a young fan right, and earn some good PR at the same time.  After a young fan had an autographed Buxton ball stolen out of the usher's hands that was intended for him, this is what happened the next day.  When they pulled into the parking lot, they found a direct message waiting for them from the Orioles, instructing them to call a phone number. On the line was a representative of new Orioles owner David Rubenstein, inviting the family to sit in Rubenstein’s own seats in the front row adjacent to home plate, with a bag of Orioles goodies also waiting for them.  https://www.mlb.com/news/byron-buxton-twins-orioles-help-young-fan-who-was-wronged
    • Webb looked bad yesterday, Means looked really bad, Wells and Perez are injured, Baumann can't throw strikes, Heasley is awful, Norfolk starters need more time, and we're all holding our breath on Bradish.  There are plenty of innings available in Baltimore.  If Suarez shows he can be effective, he'll be here for a while.  Heck, I'm happy ME grabbed Ramirez when he did.
    • Yeah, I’d forgotten about the FA ramifications of this.
    • Holiday is clearly swinging through too many pitches, but he's also been getting killed by his good eye. Umpires have been absolutely killing him on pitches out of the zone being called strikes putting him in a bad hitting counts.  The good news is the Orioles are winning while he's been taking these lumps. He has looked overmatched at times and at other times he's been just unlucky with bad umpiring. I think he gest until 1 May to turn it around and then they have to consider giving him a mental break if he's still getting dominated.  He's going to be fine overall and I'm not concerned. Am I little surprised he's been this bad, sure. I don't think anyone thought with his numbers in AAA that he would be this bad at the very start. Still, it's very early to draw any conclusions.
    • Yeah, and if there are ever minimal injuries at the same time, much more than one person. Only 13 spots for 17 guys: Locks (Some have options, but obviously won’t be) 1. Burnes 2. Rodriguez 3. Bradish 4. Kimbrel 5. Cano 6. Coulombe Options 7. Means (*but could reject the option and elect FA) 8. Kremer 9. Wells 10. Akin 11. Tate Out of options 12. Perez 13. Irvin 14. Suárez  15. Webb 16. Baumann 17. Ramirez   I’d DFA those last 3 names before Suárez if it came down to it, but likely there would be some combination of ILs & options, even if Tate is the only clear option candidate now. Perhaps Wells gets optioned to work back into a RP but that would be short term.  I think all of our out of options guys would get claimed, except perhaps Ramirez - but the Orioles traded cash considerations for him to jump the waiver priority so clearly they think he would have gotten claimed before them.
    • I think everyone just needs to relax.   If we're still having this conversation in 2 weeks, then maybe they will send him back down.  I'm guessing that the kid figures it out and will be fine.
