ESPN is reporting...

Why brush it under the rug and act like it doesn't matter?

I know that would be your preferred action to take on this as I know you don't really care about this...and honestly, neither do I all that much. I'd like to see names based on sheer curiousity.

But there's an image problem here and baseball needs to at least pretend to give a crap. And by exposing names and making examples it sends a message to fans that DO care.

Yea, baseball does need to get it cleaned up and some fans do care...I just don't think you will see some outcry from Dodger fans if they trade for Tejada and he is named in this report.

Well the press obviously cares, and when their talking/writing about a story all the time, many people are likely to care. I would think the fan reaction at every ballpark around the country to star players who have been caught would also show that you may be underestimating how much people care.

Right...The media cares....That's it.

Fans are always going to boo the opposing team's star, roids or not.

Yeah, well Dodger fans are about as fairweather as it gets, from what I understand.

This has nothing to do with anything.

Pujols was linked before with HGH...Do you St Louis fans will like him less?

Give me a break....It is all over sports...People just don't care as much anymore...I believe there have been polls showing this as well.

Avid basketball fans and China watchers undoubtedly know that the gigantic Yao is the product of a genetic experiment. He is the offspring of a mother who was 6 ft., 2 in. and and a father who was 6 ft., 10 in. The two were forced to marry by Chinese officials eager to dominate sports globally.

Yao - who was required to play basketball whether he wanted to or not - received special treatment from growth experts from birth, and the treatments seem to have succeeded beyond anybody's imagination.

I think it's too soon to tell. I don't know any more than anybody else does, but my hunch is that it will depend a lot on how long the list is, exactly who's on it, and how much it seems like a back-alley thing.. If everybody and his brother is on it, including some wholesome-type guys, then I think it will easier to sell it as "Back then, nobody knew how bad steroids were... as we found out more about it, we put a stop to it." If it's a shorter list, then the reaction could be way more Raffy-like.

My hunch is that it will hurt the value of some guys, but whether it hurts a lot or a little, beats me. I think it's just too soon to know. It might take a while to know. At first, it'll be a big media circus, and an emotional roller-coaster for many fans. Then, after a while, we'll see.

I'm worried about our American players, specifically Roberts. He came back awful quickly from that Tommy John surgery.

I can't believe this passed without comment. It is widely known that position players can come back much sooner from TJ surgery than pitchers. When it is their throwing hand! Brian's was his glove hand. I don't give Brian a pass, I think he is at least in the top half of suspects. But this kind of spurious logic is as bad as "Penn and his drug bag."

Did McGwire fall out of favor with the Cardinals fans? Where's Migrant Redbird?

As for A-Rod, of course I'd want him, we might be able to get him at a lower price.

I'd still be disappointed in him, though.

gurgi, this sounds too bizarre. Where did you get this info about Yao and the Williams sisters?

http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0103/p13s02-bogn.html

Richard Williams insists his two daughters were born to play tennis. After discovering how much Virginia Ruzici earned from a routine fourth-round defeat, he told his wife: "We need two more kids."

I am not making stuff up. I never just make stuff up. I forced my wife to teach me how to link. I hope this solves the insults. You guys were probally to young to actually hear the information live years ago. So I will give you some slack.

When I have Opinion. I state it is just my opinion. I think I deserve an apology.

I know I have a sillly reputation around here to some. However I dont make stuff up. You guys may not like my opinion on Tejada and that is fair. But I am not a liar or a fraud.

Sometimes my opinions are wrong. That is just normal with the amount of people that post here. Even Tony and SG are wrong sometimes.

You can't honestly believe that. Are people on here not fans? Many on here obviously care. Most older baseball fans seem to care, because they don't think the game is pure anymore and don't like how the records and numbers of the players they grew up with are being passed by in a tainted era.

So Bonds, Raffy, and Giambi were booed the same as if they hadn't been caught using steroids? Do you watch games with mute on?

If fans didn't care at all, the media wouldn't cover it nearly as much, the media generally covers what they think people care about.

I'm not saying all fans care, or even most care, but there are a lot of fans who do care.

If it came out that AROD is in this report and in December, we find out that he wants to become an Oriole and we are willing to pay him what it takes...Will any of you care that AROD was named in the report to the point where you will not want AROD on the team?

Why are you asking a question you know the answer to? You read this board all the time, and I'm sure you've seen many posts that have said something along the lines of "I don't want to bring in a known steroid user." Those types of posts are rather common anytime a guy who's been linked to steroids is brought up.

    • I remember him from his time with the Braves when I was in Atlanta. This is from the 'Rick Camp Game' in 85.
    • I don’t think his lack of command in the early going is going to be fixed by changing roles.  Irvin typically has very good command.  He didn’t at the beginning of last year, but recovered it after a stint in the minors.  This year he’s having early problems again, but I think the reasons may be different.  He’s gained velocity and he’s added a new pitch that moves well but he hadn’t quite figured out how to command.  So, I don’t know if he’ll figure it out or not.  If he does, he could emerge a better pitcher than at any previous time in his career. In any event, he will get at least two more starts before Means is ready to return.   Hopefully he’ll make some progress, but he’s likely to find himself in the bullpen when Means returns regardless.
    • Irvin is probably the most frustrating pitcher on this team right now. He has good velocity and good movement, but consistently misses his targets by a foot or two. Monday night the Twins hit a number of missiles that by luck or pluck didn't fall in, but a better team would have probably put up a touchdown against him. I think Irvin would have more success out of the pen, throwing as hard as he can for 20 pitches, rather than as a starter where he has to hold back a little so as to eat innings. Of course that's not going to resolve his problems with lack of command, but at least he'd be in a position to do less damage out of the BP than by starting every fifth day.
    • As some people have noted on the Holliday thread, a quick release can help make up for less than a rocket arm and he's quick and has good hands.  Seems to work well with Gunnar too.
    • He’s been murdering a lot of balls.  99th percentile in average exit velocity, 97th in hard hit rate.  He’s been a little unlucky, with a .331 xOBA, .361 xwOBA going into last night.
    • It's only somewhat relevant to this post, but that game saving catch in Seattle, and the subsequent game winning home run is quite possibly the most impressive thing I ever saw within one inning of  each other.Cedric Mullins did that. I watched Willie Mays for most of my life...I simply dont think he ever did that...certainly not in extra innings and so close those moments were together.
