Seriously...what is up with Wieters?

I have noticed the icepack also. Maybe its just what baseball is doing these days? A catcher does throw the ball back every pitch. Even if it is easy toss maybe they think it helps?

I've also noticed he lets go of the bat on his follow through. When he hits for power he doesn't do that. Don't know if it's related.

Prospects do seem to get hyped a bit too much these days, but there was good reason for a large share of the hype with Wieters.

Sadly, I do not know what the deal is with him either, but I would also love to have more insight on why he's struggled so much. There have been stretches were he's looked really good, but overall, it obviously hasn't clicked.

BTW, SG, you asked RZNJ if he would deal Wieters for Posey the other day in a debate with him, and it seemed like you asked that thinking that the correct answer is no. But at the same time, it doesn't seem like you have much faith in Wieters. So if you wouldn't do that trade, why?

Sorry but this is just absurd. Of course there was doubt that he would become a big time star. That doubt exists with every single prospect. Until they're stars, they're just potential stars. And the word potential inherently implies doubt/uncertainty.

But there was no reason to bring up that point for no reason.

On your Cubs boards, how many threads have you started about Castro maybe being a bust? What about your top prospects? Provide us with links where you sit there and just question these guys time and time again.

I honestly need to know what Wieters looked like in college to be honest.

If this is how he looked in college and early in his MiL career, then I would do that trade in a heartbeat.

To be honest, I would need to know more about how Wieters looked in college and early in his MiL career vs now.

If his approach, swing, etc...has always been this way, then I would do that trade in a second.

You said that already!

Who cares...I mean really, I don't give a damn about how he is defensively right now.

We need him to be an 850+ OPS guy, not a 700 OPS with a good glove.

Uhhhhhh, there's a lot of value in having one of the better defensive catchers in the league.

But for the record, I'm still not all that worried yet about his lack of offense.

Fair enough. I guess I'm confused at to why you asked that question in that thread, but whatever.

BTW, you posted this 3 times, thus gurgi's comment.

I agree with point one.

I can't say I share your sentiment on point two. He's been a big disappointment with the bat and I'm not seeing enough to make me confident that will change.

    • Westburg shouldn’t be, where are you seeing that?
    • So since Westburg is apparently still ROY eligible, Cowser and Westburg may project to be the best rookie combination since Fred Lynn and Jim Rice in 1975?
    • There were several and I was one them. I'm  on record as saying I was one of his biggest Apologists . You should feel good about yourself as you were able to see that Means would be imploding before our very eyes( which was an opinion or a guess, which is what I did) as far as feeling bad for me? Dont I'm plenty good enough to know I wont be able to guess right every time
    • Fantastic pickup by Elias and big kudos to O’Hearn for taking advantage of the resources to improve. He’s a great story.
    • Given his injury history and what’s happening right now, Means may make more money as an Oriole next year than as a free agent. He may have to settle for league minimum as a FA but would do better than that in arbitration. Heck, unless he’s effective at least a little this year then the orioles might release him after the season to avoid paying more than league minimum. I hope Means recovers, very much so, but this scenario is possible imo.    ps. I guess I ignored the part where you said if Means thinks he is healthy.
    • What I'd like to see in the next game Holliday plays, is for him to keep his eyes following through on the ball when he swings. In the last game I saw, he was yanking his head off the zone when he swung and couldn't see the bat to the ball. He was missing wildly and it wasn't even competitive. So, keep your eye on the ball! Follow all the way through! If your swing is so violent that it's yanking your head off the sight of the ball, then adjust your mechanics because you can't hit what you can't see!
    • What a great example of pedantic! Please tell us you meant to do that. I honestly can’t tell these days.
