Buehrle accuses Pie of stealing signs

Hopefully Pie won't get plunked because he may end up getting hurt...As it is, every time he runs the bases, he looks like he is grimacing and just a hammy pull away at every step.

BTW, don't forget that Guthrie hit 2 batters and Rios didn't look to happy when he got hit.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Pie hit by a pitch and then the Orioles retaliate and it end up in some kind of a brawl or at least, a bench clearing.

Yeah, either their signs are way too simple, or all of us who complain about Felix's low baseball IQ owe him an apology.

Regardless, you all owe him an apology. I've met a lot of his coaches from the DR, they all say he's brilliant. His focus can certainly be called into question from time to time, but that isn't necessarily a reflection of his baseball IQ

IIRC we already picked on Pierre a lot last series although I forget why now. Maybe this one only goes back a couple of weeks?

Because he made like he was going to give a ball to a kid in the stands at OPACY and then snatched it away and threw it back to the infield.

Guthrie plunked him the next series and basically said he did it on purpose without saying it.

Some said he was pointing at the kid after he did it, though others said it was just a routine point at an IFer after a play.

I saw Pie 'fake' throwing a ball to a kid (teen) at OPCY this year then pull it back. He looked at the kid - wearing the visiting team's jersey (Yanks, maybe?) - and pulled at his own jersey as if to say "wrong shirt, loser!" He then threw the ball to an O's fan and smirked back to the dugout. Classic. I'm liking him more and more...

I hope somebody cleats Pierzynski in his fivehead.

Stupid frosty tipped turd burglar.

I have been turd burgled. It isn't pretty.

Retaliatory turd burgling always ends badly.

Stealing signs on the other hand is just part of the game. Even if its the catches location behind the plate. If its a problem, the catcher needs to just set the glove later.

Buehrle almost hit Pie with 3 straight pitches. One pitch, Pie even dropped his bat while trying to back out of the way. A lot of players would have glared at the pitcher for that. Especially given that Buehrle is one of the best control pitchers in the game.

Buehrle whines over stolen signs. Pie doesn't whine about three up and in pitches. Class act goes to Pie this round.

As for why Pie seems so disliked by many, I can't figure it out either. He plays hard. He doesn't strut or show up players. He seems to care and gives full effort. He has cut down drastically on his mental lapses as well. He's been one of the three or four most enjoyable Orioles to watch this year. I'd love to have him as an Oriole for the next decade. I just wish he walked more.

    • Even my cold WBC heart was warmed watching the end of the USA-Japan game culminating with Ohtani vs Trout. 3-2, two out, and Ohtani throws the perfect slider for strike 3. Damn. That was fun.
    • I haven't watched any.  International competitions really never have greatly interested me,  be it the Olympics, World Cup or whatever.  I also don't have a current TV service so watching them would be more difficult than I care to go through right now.   I should have MLB.tv in week or so,  then I'll get all the baseball I want!
    • With just over a week until Opening Day, who makes the final MLB roster?  Safe = 18: SP: Gibson, Ivin, Bradish, Kremer RP: Bautista, Baker, Perez, Akin IF: Mateo, Mountcastle, Urias, Henderson, Frazier, Rutschmann, McCann OF: Santander, Mullins, Hays Prediction: SP: Rodriguez RP: Wells, Voth (especially with Givens injured, I think these two are definitely on the roster), Bauman, Politi IF: Vavra OF: McKenna, Stowers
    • Unfortunately have not really been able to watch I wish they showed more ST games on MASN.
    • Prospects Live has their first scouting book out and Gunnar is on the cover.  Please be no jinx. Please be no jinx. Prospects Live
    • I have no doubt that the WBC games are 100 times more electric than a spring training game.  ST games are very relaxing and fun, but they are the opposite of intense.  I’m still surprised at the viewing disparity, though I’ll wait until tomorrow night before considering the poll results comparable since I started the WBC poll a day earlier.
    • Fangraphs credits him with 2.1 fWAR at 3B and 1.7 at SS, so that’s 3.8 so far (it’s possible they might have him dabbling at DH once in a while, we’ll see).  At SS, the O’s ranked 18th at 3.4 fWAR, with Mateo and Henderson splitting time roughly 60/40.  Fangraphs comments: “This playing time projection is the numerical equivalent of throwing your hands up in the air. Henderson looks bound for stardom, be it at third or shortstop, but Mateo is still holding on to the position for now after a solid defensive year established him as the everyday starter. His offensive numbers are downright ugly – that .284 projected wOBA is the second-lowest for anyone in this article with 100 or more PAs – but you can get away with that kind of bat at shortstop if your glove is transcendent. “In 2022, Mateo’s was, but he’d never flashed that level of defense before, so Orioles talent evaluators will have their work cut out for them early in the year. Henderson will likely start the season at third base, but if Mateo’s defense looks shaky, the team should make the switch sooner rather than later. Those offensive numbers next to Henderson’s name are no joke — think Corey Seager, if you’re looking for a parallel as an offense-first lefty shortstop. 2023 is just the start of Baltimore’s plan for contention, but what they do at shortstop will have ramifications for both this year and the future.” https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-positional-power-rankings-shortstop/
